5.0 out of 5 stars Fun but Short August 1, 2007
A Kid's Review
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game has no direct storyline but focuses instead on missions. Some missions can get frustratingly difficult, while others are surprisingly easy. You start the game with only D-rank (or easy) missions and after completing all of them move on to C, B, A, and S rank missions.

The array of jutsu and use of the stylus in this area is very impressive. One of the most fun parts of the game is deploying various jutsu such as Neji's byakugan and Sasuke's pheonix flower jutsu.

The list of characters is also varied, so any Naruto fan can play their favorite character, etc. The characters each have different qualities. For example, Rock Lee is faster then, say, Sakura. This gives a more realistic quality to the game. The graphics are not in 3-D, but are quite good all the same. The audio is ok, and sound effects are fine.

The one larger downside of the game is its length. I finished it in around six or seven hours, which is quite short. Despite this, even after beating it, I find the game quite fun all the same. You can replay levels with different characters and change the difficulty level (easy, normal, and hard) to change various levels as well.

Overall, any Naruto fan or newbie to the whole series, would find this game worth while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Believe It!!! June 17, 2007
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
This is a great game. I'm only up to the B rank missions right now but the jist of the game is this: you start off with D rank missions and move up to higher missions with higher difficulties. Along the way you'll unlock different characters (27 in total) and different jutsus. I love the attention to detail. Each character has their own distinct fighting style and not just a cheap copy of moves when performing regular attacks. They also use the real character's voices. Allowing you to use other character's signature jutsus is also a nice feature. I've only got 1/2 the characters unlocked right now but I'm loving this game and I can't put it down. Definitly a must-buy for Naruto fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Decent Game December 31, 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Okay, first of all, this has no storyline. It's all about ranking up. You start off as a low-ranking ninja doing easy D-ranked missions and end as a Jonin doing S-Rank missions. If you don't mind that, then this game is pretty good. As another reviewer said, I like how each character has their own qualities. Lee is faster than Choji, and I believe other characters can jump higher than others (say, Kakashi and Naruto).

The downside is it's fairly short, it only took me a total of 11 hours to beat it as it is pretty easy if you play it on the normal level, and I found only two of the missions really challenging (Defend the Bridge and 100-Man Spar). I think you can play it over again though to unlock some wallpaper or something. The graphics are okay, it's not all 3D and flashy or anything but it'll do.

Overall, I'd say it's a great game, perfect for when you're bored or you just want to kick some butt as your favorite Naruto character.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too shabby December 5, 2008
By Moondog
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
When first playing this game I was impressed with the extras it offered. You can choose from a wide variety of characters, each with thier own unique skills and fighting style, and the audio and graphics aren't too bad either.

The only majoy dissapointment I had with the game is entirely mini games. You can unlock cool abilities for each character and it can take a little stratagy to think of how or which character to use for each mission that you choose. But overall the game just didn't have much to offer in terms of keeping you attention for more than 5-10min at a time.

If your looking for a way to pass a little time you could really do worse and if your a fan of the series you'll probably get a lot out of this. But I think you could do better with some of the other Naruto games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short term fun for Naruto fans only May 27, 2008
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I'm a big Naruto fan, so I bought this when it was on sale. If you aren't a fan, don't bother. If you are a fan, pick it up when it hits the $10-15 range.

The combat is pretty simple and gets old. The fun comes from collecting and playing as such a large group of characters. If you're favorite is missing...than your favorite is either too new or too obscure ;)

In my opinion, the best Naruto game to be released in the US so far has been Ultimate Ninja 3 on the PS2. I think it has more playable characters than any other, and a really strong and varied fighting system. It's a lot of fun to play.

3.0 out of 5 stars Complete unbiased honesty. June 12, 2014

The game functions properly, but its absolutely frustrating. the controls are very basic and feel behind. The camera isn't far enough away from your character to be able to dodge all the random objects flying out of nowhere or the random ninjas that just materialized and sprinted into you for no reason. There are so many boulders and other crap its just annoying. The sound is the absolute worst part. every level has annoying looped music and every time you attack at all you hear them grunting. The voice acting is just is despicable as the english dubbing of the show so if you could tolerate that ten maybe it won't bug you. The biggest problem in this game is a mission that has you punching 10 bats while they fly very quickly (sometimes through walls) in a cave with many spike trap ceilings and lava pits.

On the upside this game is a fantastic use of the DS and puts all of its functions into play in a very fun and worthwhile experience. Jutsus like Sasukes Phoenix Style Jutsu will actually have you blow into the mic. And Neji will have you poking the tenketsus with your stylus. There is a great amount of characters and some rather creative missions.

Now for my biased opinion:
I say this game is a splendid time and I absolutely love it. The game is super fun to play and I find it to be re-playable. I get super annoyed with the problems mentioned before and I still say this game is awesome. Part of my love comes from the Anime/Manga. If you can look past the numerous problems then throw down like 5 bucks for an awesome time. Its not a good game really, but its one of my favorites.
