Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 continues the tradition of Cyber Connect 2's dedication to the Naruto series with the release of Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 on the PSP. Unlike other releases, this game sets its self apart by having a cast of around 50 or so playable characters from the Naruto Shippuden universe, and goes beyond the Rescue Gaara arc of Shippuden. I wont say how far along in the story it goes but lets just it covers a substantial amount of ground. The game even features a Sasuke specific storyline, so some fanservice has been included.

The game features a variety of missions types, most are fight centric with various objectives needed to be done (for example, winning with a ninjutsu, or finishing in awakening mode). Others are more of the enemies have high attack power. Though the game incorporates tactics, in which you can purchase and use the same boosts in battle, such as higher jumping ability, or all allies have high attack. The game allows for four players to battle at once as well (and these are incorporated into story mode too).

Presentation wise, the game looks nice and uses clips from the anime to tell the story. A few parts of the story have been omitted in order to streamline the experience, so you wont see everything that we have seen in past Shippuden games (basically every single battle in the Gaara arc isnt included). The English voice actors return and you can choose Japanese voices. Graphically the game is lush and pretty. There is some cel-shading used in the ultimate jutsus which does the attacks justice. The music sounds reminiscent of that which we heard in Ultimate Ninja Storm for the PS3 (same flutes and other instruments), sounds very Naruto-like. On the stages where you run and such, there are some framerate slips but they arent that noticeable and there are some jagged lines then, but otherwise nothing to tarnish the fun. You have to be a stickler for graphics to point it out.

Ultimately, this is the ideal Naruto game to get on the PSP for the Shippuden story as it has a huge cast of characters, tons of ninjutsu's, and covers the Shippuden storyline, it is the definitive Naruto experience on the PSP.

4.0 out of 5 stars Okay but not great, June 23, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Naruto Shipuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 (Video Game)
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 for the psp is a very good game compared to the last Naruto release, Akatsuki Rising. There's 50 characters from the Naruto Shippuden series, each one packed with their own Ninjutsu and Ultimate Jutsu. There are 13 stages to fight in and a long story mode starting at the beginning of Shippuden and leading up to the Hidan & Kakuzu arc. In addition, there are three exclusive story arcs revolving around the Leaf Anbu, and parts of the Hunt for Itachi arc. Anything new in a Naruto game is a bonus if you've played all the others because having to go through the Rescue Gaara Arc again is just enough. But while you play in story mode you do get to unlock a bunch of jutsu and characters. There's also different objectives for missions to complete which adds something interesting to the series.

Heroes 3 also allows for 4-player combat. Whether CPU or playing against friends via Ad-Hoc, which can be a bit slow and kind of takes the fun out of it. But it was a nice try. There are some issues with graphics. Though this games looks and feels much better then Akatsuki Rising its still has its glitches. But it's a hand-held not a console games so what can you really expect.

Overall:

Presentation - 7/10

Long story mode. Most of it just more of the same Shippuden content we've all seen before.

Graphics - 8/10

The environments and character models in Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 are not the best that the could be but they are a HUGE improvement over the last game.

Sound - 8.5/10

Once again Full English and Japanese language tracks are offered (for you dub hating fans) with the normal Naruto music we`ve come to expect in the games. Wouldn't have it any other way ^_^

Gameplay - 6/10

Gameplay is good and the new arcs makes it interesting but its starting to get a bit old. . Multiplayer could work a bit better, still needs work.

Lasting Appeal - 7/10

Lots of stuff to do and unlock. It will keep you busy for a little while. But I felt no need to replay any of the beginning arcs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Portable hero, May 24, 2010

Ultimate ninja heros's 3 is a game that really lives up to it's title.

Graphics wise it's easily among the best games the psp has to offer. If I didn't know better I wouldn't even think it was a portable game in the first place as it easily looks as good if not better then Ultimate ninja 4 on Ps2.

Gameplay wise the controls are the same as ever, but why fix what isn't broken? And the Music is as rocken as ever.

The biggest improvement by far is character selection. With Young Kakashi, Obito and many more new characters to use at your finger tips, each one with their own unique special moves.

Over all I grade Ultimate Ninja Hero's 3 an A+

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3

Why do things that I once anticipated so highly always end up being the objects of my loathing? First it was Dragonball: Evolution, then recently The Last Airbender and now Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 for the PSP system. How can a video game that boasts 50 playable characters, a lengthy story mode, and plenty of fan service be worse than it's predecessors?

I should've gathered from the numerous `mediocre' reviews that this title wasn't worth it, but Naruto games generally get bad reviews by critics (and great reviews by fans, as did this one) and my Naruto fanboy wouldn't let me pass it up. In addition, the first in the series Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes, was an absolutely great experience. Naruto UNH3 takes what made it's predecessors great, throws it away and in it's place jams 30 more fighters and the option of having 4 characters duking it out at once in team battle or free for all. Now theoretically that would be a good thing, but somehow the folks over at CC2 managed to royally screw this up. The combat system in place before was perfect, but UNH3 is a mess. 4 on 4 is too chaotic and instead of relying on skill, your main priority is to mash the O button and dash in hopes of actually hitting someone.

Story Mode:

The side-scrolling missions were annoying, nuff said...

A persistent problem in this otherwise great series is fake difficulty. By that I mean difficulty that can only be overcome not by skill, but by cheating. Yes, it seems cheating is positively encouraged. What is a player expected to do when he has no access to chakra, and the enemy has increased speed and attack power? Other characters, namely Kakuzu, are extremely over-powered and nearly impossible to defeat in a fair fight on the hardest difficulty.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the portable naruto we've been waiting for, June 15, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Naruto Shipuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 (Video Game)
Despite the bittersweet taste we got from "Akatsuki Rising", this naruto game is the real deal. The character Roster, is huge, and contains pretty much every character you would want in the game, along with some extra characters that are pretty cool to play as, as well. Its a fun system.

The story mode, contains both a side-scroller, and 1 on 1 battles. It follows up to right before the Sasuke vs. Itachi arc. The story mode is very hard to follow if you aren't a naruto fan. Not because its a sequel to another series, but because the cutscenes are very minimal.

Specifically speaking, the Immortals Arc, had very little info on what the heck was going on. If i didn't watch shippuden, I'd have no idea what was happening. Asuma just seemed to collapse while fighting hidan, which doesn't tell much of hidan's ability, so new players don't know what's happening when he turns black.

Now back from my rambling. The fighting is solid, the graphics are great, the ultimate jutsu is awesome. And every character can use eachother's jutsu. You can have naruto use the chidori if you want.

The bottom line is definitely buy this if you are a fan, if you are not, wait for ultimate ninja storm 2's release on the xbox 360 and ps3.

Like all the other Ultimate Ninja games. UNH3 is great for Naruto fans as well as others who love fighting games. If you haven't tried playing the first two I suggest you to just buy this game. It is pretty much the same as the first two. the only difference is that there is more characters to use and the difficulty level has been brought up a notch.
