We're finally treated to the third game in the Naruto Ultimate Ninja series on the PS2 in as many years and, boy, is it something. There over 40 playable characters in the game with an option to choose between English and Japanese VO. You can customize your characters with whichever ultimate jutsu you choose, you'll be able to turn some of your favorite characters into more powerful ninja and summon giant creatures as allies to help you in battle, interact with characters residing in the leaf village and accomplish over 55 missions in Ultimate Contest mode, engage in battle royale matches in 20 unique stages using either close combat or ranged weapons. The game itself takes place up to the Sasuke Retrieval Arc. It's definitely a bigger monster to contend with this time around.
Ultimate Contest is the biggest part of UN3 wherein a festival is thrown together by Lady Tsunade for the sake of visitors from the hidden village of Sand. The main event is a battle royal in which each ninja gets a crystal. When ninja fight, the winner gets the loser's crystals. The two who finish with the most crystals get to battle for the right to create a new Hidden Leaf Village regulation. You run around Hidden Leaf Village completing simple quests and challenging other characters to fights, which is somewhat similar to the game Naruto Rise of a Ninja(although UN3 came out long before that game did in Japan so, technically, it thought of the idea first). There are also a handful of minigames you'll be asked to compete in as well. The game has top-notch production values. The graphics look simply stunning in this game(sometimes making you wonder if this isn't a PS3 game). There isn't much that can be said bad about this game. Note, much that can be said. Meaning there is a few things that isn't so good. My biggest gripe with the game is the unlockables. Most of them are nothing you hadn't unlocked before in the previous games & that, to me, is disappointing. At least, they should give us a some new content to unlock to make it all the more pleasing to play. Overall, Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 is a game all Naruto fans should get. It's definitely the best of the series thus far. I'm not sure casual fans would be interested, honestly, not unless they're into anime & manga. Sadly, I hear this is the last game in the series for the PS2. The series is moving onto the PS3. I do hope & pray they give it alot bigger scope on the system and continue its' success with newer and better content. PSP owners can rejoice, though, as a new game is on the way for the PSP. Look for my review when it hits the shelves.

Best Naruto Game of the series thus far!,

I played four Naruto games from the Gamecube and the Playstation II thus far, (Naruto Clash of Ninja I & II and Ultimate Ninja II & III) and the best one is this one, Naruto Ultimate Ninja III. The game is updated with more characters (including all the hokages, including Yondaime) which can be unlocked throughout playing the Storyline of the game. There are over forty characters that you can play as, and so many more things to do. The environment you play in is more interactive, but some of the playing fields from NUNII are slightly different, but otherwise still awesome. I really enjoyed this game, which is more challenging than the last one in the series. If you are new to Naruto games in particular and own a PSII, than definitely try this game.

The best Naruto game for the PS2 so far,

First of all let me say that this is the best Naruto game for the PS2, yet. The gameplay is similar to the previous 2 but it is finely tuned and has a few nice little additions that make it really fun (for example, if the Rasengan and the Chidori clash at the same time then you get into a power struggle where both players should press buttons to win).
The Hero's Story Mode was pretty good, not great, but good. Pros: 1. Incredible Roster of Characters 2. Solid Gameplay 3. Nice Soundtrack (btw there is an option for the Japanese voice actors) 4. The Ultimate Contest Mode, which is a new story arc (called Konoha Genin vs Jonin) only for the game :) Cons: 1.Not THAT much of an improvement from Ultimate Ninja 2. 2.Hardcore Gamers might not be attracted by the lack of depth in the figthing system. 3.Short Anyway I had a lot of fun playing this game, really enjoyed the Ultimate Contest mode and playing the new characters. Overall, I give this 4 stars.

This was my first time at playing the Ultimate Ninja series. It played without any issues on my 60gig PS3. Being new to the series, I was at first a little confused about the menu layout (Hero's history, Ultimate Contest, Vs Dual, etc) and how they connected to one another. After a few hours of playing, I finally got a hang of the concept and character fighting styles.
If you are a Naruto Fan, this is a must have since it allows you to play many of the characters. You also have the option of selecting different Jutsu as you gain levels. I really enyoyed it as I wait for the release of Ultimate Ninja Storm for the PS3.

This is a great game. After playing both Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 1 and 2, this game greatly surpasses them both. The characters are really realistic, the scenery is amazingly accurate to the Naruto world, and the gaming experience is one of the best I have ever had. There is so much content and lots of storylines that can be played. I've yet to try them all because I just finished one of them-it took approximately 6 hours, which would have been enough time to pass all of the previous Naruto game. This game is a definite must buy:it is completely worth it. especially for those that love anything and everything Naruto. As for those that don't know much about it, you should try it because it is simply a great game-full of surprises!

Great for new gamers,

Let me preface my remarks by first stating that I am new to the series. I am a fan of Naruto though, and I have played other Naruto games, most notably the Uzamaki Chronicles series. That being said, this is an excellent game in terms of graphics, variety, depth and fun factor. The game has at least 40 playable characters, once you unlock them all and it took me about two weeks to do that. I play about three hours a day after work, and I am not all that experienced with the fighting games, so I'm sure experienced gamers would take less time. The Heroes history (my favorite) game goes with the storyline up to the Sasuke retrieval arc and that is a definite plus. The cut scene videos are excellent in sound quality, content and timing. That made the game very entertaining for me.
You can unlock music tracks, cards and figurines along the way and the Ultimate contest is fun too. You get to walk around and beat everybody up along the way sort of battle royale style, and take their crystals. Good stuff. I love the secret technique summoning jutsus in this one. You can also customize your character if you want as you unlock techniques. I don't know about replay value though, once you beat levels you may not want to revisit them, but I have fun playing against friends as well. Overall, it's a great game for Naruto fans and "Street Fighter" style fighting game fans.

THIS GAME IS UNBELIEVABLE. Of course the game gets better and better every time a new addition comes out, and this one is definitely the best! THe gameplay is incredible. You can play with 40 people, including all the hokages and a few new people! In VS. DUEL, the traditional places are still there, but they look so much better. THere are also three new places: the place where Naruto and Sasuke fought, a grassy, moonlit plain, and a spider forest (Kimimaro)(I think that's it). THe graphics took a big leap from Ultimate Ninja 2. It's so clear and it has a lot more detail from every noodle to every rock in the entire game. There are also a lot of fun things to do, Like in Ultimate Contest, Ultimate Road in UN2, you have much more movement. You can jump on top of building and break things and the missions there give a lot more money and a lot of experience for those characters you like to put on speed and defense high. If you are like me and watch Naruto ahead of the U.S. version or the manga, you might have seen the OVA in which there was a jonin-genin showdown and they had to find these crystals to make a new law for Konoha. THat is what the beginning of Ultimate Contest is for. You MUST be careful here or else your crystals will be taken! This just scratches the surface! Get the game to find out all the things that are too much to review about!!!

It was a toss-up between this and the Naruto game for the X-Box 360, so I went with this one, most because this was the 3rd game in a much beloved fighting game series vs a new sandbox game with hit or miss results. I dug this game, not only because I always got a kick out of looking at the over the top ougis/specials on youtube, but simply because of the enormous variety of characters for you to choose from and multiple gameplay options, from the mini sandbox-type quest game (only 1 real area to explore plus several smaller places familiar to Naruto fans) to the story mode to the ever popular vs mode, plus a couple cute little mini-games for you to play (there are only 3 though and it's more fun to play with a friend) and a store where you can unlock music, movies, screencaps from the show, statues, and a whole lot more.
I liked this game a lot, though the controls will take some getting used to. Even if you're not a Naruto fan, it's still a fun fighting game to play with your friends or even alone for all you single player gamers, though I have to admit the appeal of this game skyrockets for fans who'll get a kick out of all the extras and nods from the series and have a friend to reenact famous scenes and fights from the show. I highly recommend this game.

I absolutely adore this game. First of all, there's an option to have it in Japanese which makes it amazing to start off with. The story lines are accurate and the Ultimate Road part or whatever is fine. The battle can get quite tough, which I appreciate, and there's so many players. It's overall fun and enjoyable, I definitely recommend this game for anyone. The only con would be the music can't be turned down while the voices go up. Sometimes the music downs the voices which is annoying, but it just requires a good TV really.

I find myself playing this a lot because it takes little time. I play it enough I gave it a 5 although I'm not sure why, I doesn't feel like it should be fun, but is strangely addictive.
