Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Limited Edition,

Graphics - 5.0
This is actually the first ever Naruto video game I've played in depth. I was a big fan of the TV series a few years back, and seeing this game in all its HD goodness really brought back memories. NUNS uses a type of cel-shading that, for all intents and purposes, looks amazing in comparison to other games I've seen and even exceeds the art/animation quality of the anime. Colors, line detail, and shadowing all look fantastic for the characters. I was especially impressed at the fluidity of battles and fighting motions that seem to have been captured and digitally recreated to perfection. In contrast, the backgrounds are a bit dull, but even in the manga/anime, they were never that big of a factor in terms of art. Aside from that, this is easily the best looking Naruto game to date, thus far. Audio - 4.5 NUNS offers a Dolby Digital 5.1 track in both Japanese and English. For a video game, I thought it was adequate considering that most titles these days are just now starting to delve further into higher quality audio. Directionality is fairly good, balancing music, sound effects, and dialogue mostly through the front sound stage, but also through the rears on occasion. Voices and sound effects are taken straight from the anime, providing a familiar experience to fans of whichever language they prefer. I believe I heard that the music was also composed by Toshio Masuda (the composer of the series' score), or at least someone from his staff, so that's another plus. The only problem is the Ultimate Jutsu glitch, where on occasion you'll hear this explosion sound loop in itself at the end of a battle. Gameplay - 4.0 NUNS makes for a visual treat in terms of commercial fighting games. If you or your friends are fans of the franchise, you'll probably enjoy hours of fun fighting against each other with most of your favorite characters. However, the story mode leaves much to be desired. Basically, you run around Konoha performing ninja missions, most of them coming in the form of mini games, and then the occasional battle and even monster battles (which graphically speaking are the prettiest parts of the game). Story mode itself is fun at first. But with little diversity and no cut scenes whatsoever to advance the plot, one can only hope that, with their foot now in the door, Namco will improve on this flaw in future installments. The battle system itself isn't really a "fighting game" in the sense of the usual suspects (Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, Tekken, etc.), but more so a button masher. Players can essentially have 4 items to use in-battle, one jutsu, one ultimate jutsu, and 1-2 support characters that can either combo or jutsu as backup. Don't let the button mashing be too big a concern, however. There are actually enough tactics you could use to make it a little more challenging when fighting someone who actually knows how to play. Unfortunately, most of my friends don't... But overall, it's still fun to play with friends, if not for the experience, then at least for the eye candy. Packaging - 5.0 NUNS Limited Edition comes in a spiffy steelbook casing and includes the game, the soundtrack, and a limited edition Naruto laser cel. There is also a plastic slipcover with the PS3 and NUNS logos printed on the front and a small picture of Itachi on the bottom of the spine that goes over the case. The case itself has a picture of Kyuubi (Nine-tails) Naruto on the front and Cursed Seal Sasuke on the back. If your friends have tendency of not washing their hands, be prepared to wipe a lot of fingerprint smudges off the case after they leave. Overall - 4.0 If you're a fan of the franchise and can spare the money, it's worth looking into, but only if you plan on having friends over on a regular basis. The visuals and audio are top-notch, but aside from the battles, the story mode just isn't enough as it becomes more and more stale after a while. Recommended for fans, a rental at best for the casual gamer.

Beautiful scenarios, great background music, nice 3D stylish characters, becomes part of this game, if you are a Naruto Fan and you are a follower of the series this is a must have game. It follows a lot the history from the anime, since the characters become Genins and they need to develop their skill.
Complete missions, fulfill additional tasks in order to trade them for scrolls for new techniques for different characters find and obtain new ingredients for new Ramen recepies and as a plus your chakra level will be increased. Walk around Konoha to find treasure chests, scrolls, talk to new characters, stores where you can sell your extra stuff, buy new ninja gadgets, buy music, figurines, find new missions in order to get Ryu and XP. You can choose the Story Mode to follow the adventures of Naruto or the Versus Mode where you can fight against your friends or the CPU and test your skills as a true Kohona Shinobi. This game is the kind of game you will spend a lot of hours playing.

If you've seen the trailer/demo for this game then you know how beautiful the graphics are. Gameplay looks better than any of the previous installments but lacks content. The entire game can be finished within 30 hours, but missions become repetitive after the first few runs. The battle mode is a lot of fun with friends and with all of the playable characters the fighting never gets boring.
Bottom line: if you're looking for an RPG, this game doesn't have too much to offer but as a fighting game the replay and value is endless.

Ninja Storm compares closer to a party fighting game, like Super Smash Brothers, than something like Street Fighter or Virtua Fighter. Very simple controls and once someone learns those controls they simply must learn to use what they know right. Very quick to learn but mastering will take a bit longer. 25 characters, all unique and fun to fight with. You'll find some characters are more your style while others surely aren't. The controls are perfect and the fights remain very fast.
The single player story mode took me a little over 10 hours but it was fun, especially for someone who didn't finish the Manga or television show. The campaign follows through all the major story parts, some of the side missions follow filler episodes. I highly recommend the game for people who both do and do not like fighting games- this is a fun party style game that you and a friend can quickly pick up and thoroughly enjoy. With enough characters to keep you busy for atleast a while and the decent story mode to let you sortof 'feel' the characters, I'd say the game is exactly what it is supposed to be and I say it's worth atleast a 50 dollar price tag (though I did pay for the special edition and don't regret it one bit)

well, this game has gorgeus graphics and compliments the playstation 3 system
this game contains characters that were not in the previous games such as Kimimaro, Kabuto, etc i think it could be better and have more characters such as the sound 4 if u are a real naruto fan and watch shippuden, then u will have a better time buying the japanese games for they are much more developed in character selection and lets u select from a wide variety although, this is the best american version of naruto when it comes to games well, lets get to the content; there are extra things included in this version Laser Cell: picture of naruto and sasuke in beast forms very good quality Collectible cards: foil cards of naruto and sasuke in their beast forms Soundtrack: u can download the soundtrack onto ur ps3 bc it is on cd i hope i have not left anything out and oh, it is worth the xtra money i hope this helped you leave comments and i may be able to help u :):):):):):):)

the consumer hype for this is way too overrated! yes the game is fun and builds up to the shippuden saga. but the graphics are elementary. i hooked it up to my 42" plasma tv via HDMI and was blwn away by how "edgy" the graphics are. there is texture smoothing or rounding to there faces. sure its 3D but my PSP has better graphics than this game.
dont get me wrong, i love playing this game hours on end DESPITE the graphics flaw. the manufacturer should have spent more time on the graphics department and less time promoting since ALOT of fans have been looking for to this game. oh and the game installation takes about 8-12 minutes and you still have to wait awhile (1min-3min)for the missions to load.my rant and rave is done. *bottom line* fun as hell, just get past the graphics and you're good. |
