Episodes No. 121 through No. 135 of the hit ninja fantasy Naruto bridge the end of Season 5 and the start of Season 6, concluding one arc of the story. Shikamaru's mission to retrieve Sasuke from Orochimaru's henchmen falters, but Rock Lee and three familiar ninja from the Sand Village come to the rescue. The combatants employ fantastic jutsu, especially when Gaara battles Kimimaro, who creates weapons from his own bones. Rock Lee mistakenly drinks some sake and performs his own version of the "drunken fist" martial arts style in an homage to Jackie Chan. But the story also falters: the first seven episodes focus on the same fights, which drag on and on. The plot reaches its climax as Naruto confronts Sasuke at Final Lake, atop the enormous carved guardians of a waterfall. In flashbacks, the viewer learns that Sasuke desires the power to avenge his brother's murder of their family--regardless of its cost. The friendship he shares with Naruto makes their duel more meaningful and intense. As the strength of Orochimaru's curse mark intensifies, Sasuke transforms, sprouting hand-like wings; some of the chakra of the Nine-Tailed Fox-Demon imprisoned within Naruto's body emerges. A new storyline begins when Jiraiya a.k.a. "Pervy Sage," comes to the hospital and announces he has three years to train Naruto to the level of Shinobi. Three years must pass before Orochimaru can take possession of Sasuke's body--and in three years' time, the sinister Akatsuki organization plans to strike at Naruto to obtain the Fox-Demon's power. (Rated T+ Older Teen; suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, toilet humor, alcohol) --Charles Solomon

(121: To Each His Own Battle, 122: Fakeout: Shikamaru's Comeback! 123: The Leaf's Handsome Devil! 124: The Beast Within, 125: The Sand Shinobi: Allies of the Leaf, 126: Showdown: Gaara vs. Kimimaro, 127: Vengeful Strike! The Bracken Dance! 128: A Cry on Deaf Ears, 129: Brothers: Distance Among the Uchiha, 130: Father and Son, the Broken Crest, 131: The Secrets of the Mangekyo Sharingan! 132: For a Friend, 133: A Plea From a Friend, 134: The End of Tears, 135: The Promise That Could Not Be Kept)

Product Description

Naruto's pursuit of Sasuke is halted by the most fearsome of the Sound ninja--Kimimaro, a ninja with an uncompromising loyalty to Orochimaru and a hair-raising Kekkei Genkai! But the Leaf Village has sent another able-bodied ninja to assist in the fight, the newly recovered Rock Lee! While the Leaf genin continue their battles against the Sound, Naruto finally catches up to Sasuke at the Final Valley, the legendary site at the border of the Land of Fire. There, Sasuke and Naruto must face each other in their most devastating battle yet, and Sasuke must make a terrible choice in his quest for power that could decide both their destinies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Episodes - No Filler September 12, 2008
Format:DVD
The 10th uncut box set begins with episode 121. The Sasuke retrieval team is already engaged in separate and individual combat with the Sound 4. This is after Choji and Jirobo take each other out, and Kimimaro and Naruto begin battle. The first episode (121) is the one in which Kiba tries escaping down river with Akamaru. There aren't any filler episodes in this box set. This is a trully great part of the Naruto story arc.

The high points (to me) in these episodes are:

Rock Lee reveals that he is a master of the "Drunken Fist"

Gara finishes off Kimimaro and is more chillingly powerful than in the Chunin exams.

Lots of back story on the Uchiha brothers, Susuke and Itachi. Very heavy.

Naruto and Sasuke really showcases how powerful each has become while they shred each other.

The final episode (135) has the retrieval team returning to the leaf village and Sasuke joining Orochimaru. All alive, some gravely injured, and all changed. Finally, there is a hint at future romance between Shikamaru and Temari (leaf ninja).

Episode 121: To Each His Own Battle
Episode 122: Fakeout: Shikamaru's Comeback!
Episode 123: The Leaf's Handsome Devil!
Episode 124: The Beast Within
Episode 125: The Sand Shinobi: Allies of the Leaf
Episode 126: Showdown: Gaara vs. Kimimaro
Episode 127: Vengeful Strike! The Bracken Dance!
Episode 128: A Cry on Deaf Ears
Episode 129: Brothers: Distance Among the Uchiha
Episode 130: The Secrets of the Mangekyo Sharingan!
Episode 131: The Secrets of the Mangekyo Sharingan!
Episode 132: For a Friend
Episode 133: A Plea From a Friend
Episode 134: The End of Tears
Episode 135: The Promise That Could Not Be Kept

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST buy for any Naruto Fan... October 9, 2008
By I2ThaG
Format:DVD
This DVD is without a doubt a must own for any Naruto fan out there. This season showcases the best in the show, especially the epic battle between Sasuke and Naruto. Plus I honestly think they did this thing perfectly by having episode 135 being the final episode on this boxset since it shows the debut of the Akatsuki in full force. So yeah, def well worth grabbing and after this...dont even worry about buying anymore after this one because of those dang fillers. Wait up on Shippuden when it comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ending fitting of a true shinobi anime. November 19, 2008
By The B.
Format:DVD
This really brings a major story arc to a amazing conclusion. The animation in the fight between Naruto and Sasuke reached feature film levels. To me this ends the Naruto series and it doesn't start up again until he comes back to the village older. The filler episodes that take place after this are ok but not necessary to what goes on in the manga.

These were the most exciting episodes of the Sasuke retrieval episodes especially with the help of the Sand Ninja Temari, Kankuro, and of course Gaara. With the failure of retrieving the traitor Sasuke we now have Naruto who in the manga goes with Toad Sage Jiraiya to train for three years to become stronger and bring back Sasuke. But in the anime the producers in Japan were catching up to fast with the manga books and so were told to make some extra filler episodes until there were more manga chapters for the series or stop making the anime until this happened. Thus after this box set we begin the filler episodes which I feel weren't all that bad. This box set though tries to give you a more detailed information on why Sasuke is so determined to gain power and kill his brother Itachi. You'll see episodes of how Sasuke grew up in the Uchiha clan, how Itachi was before the massacre, Sasuke's and Itachi's relationship with their parents, and finally why Itachi felt the reason to kill off his clan. As you see some of these episodes I somewhat emphasized a little with Sasuke's reasons than I thought about Naruto. I mean Sasuke at least had a loving family and still look how he ended up betraying everyone in the Leaf village. Now look at Naruto forced to live with the stigma of having the nine-tailed fox in him, ostracized by most of the adults in his own village, and yet his loyalty and dedication are astounding and were supposed to feel sorry for Sasuke. AS I've said I'm not a Sasuke fan but I do want to make one thing clear I don't dislike the English/Japanese voice actors but the character himself. At the end this is a great box set to get as again you have the uncensored versions so any violence or bloody scene they thought to much to show on t.v. Read more ›

I've bought all other box sets uncut. The cds all come unscratched and the holder is in great condition to hold the cds (sometimes the center is broken and then the cds rattle, but not this). Love the series.

In Englis??
It also says dubbed, that usually implies English. Since it is put out by Viz, I think English & Japanese should be the language options too. Could just be a listing error.
