Music is great and I find myself rooting for characters. It can play in the background while I'm doing other things and doesn't detract from my other activities.

I love this show. Every one of the actors are excellent in their roles. The music is awesome. Who knew some of these people could sing. I hope it continues for many years.

Love this show!!! Fabulous acting, great singing, great fun to watch . Story is very good without the silly nonsense these shows sometimes have as part of the plots. Just solid enjoyable show.

As I go to post this review there are nearly 300 reviews posted already but - if you look at the dates of the review - you will notice that most are long before the DVD set of the complete season was released in September. That is because Amazon combines all the reviews of all formats (Broadcast, streaming and DVD and BD) together. I always recommend that those searching reviews for a DVD or BD product sort the reviews by "newest first" and then look at both the date of the review and the "format" being reviewed. With that said, this my review of the DVD version (sadly no BD version was released of either Season One or Season Two).

It took me a while to get to this review because I did not watch any of the episodes when they aired on TV. By using the DVD set I was often able to binge-watch and - since there are no commercials - the episodes flow smoother and only run about 44-minutes each.

I'm a music journalist and so I love this series, not for the melodrama, but for the music performances - and there are at least two full-length ones and a few partial ones in each episode. Som I'll concentrate on the MUSIC aspects of the set and leave the story line to the many other reviewers here.
The actors in this series were chosen for their acting as well as vocal talent and they sure can sing. None of the songs that they sing in the show were actually written by them but they did do some co-writing with the real songwriters - during their down time.

There were 22 episodes this season so there is plenty to watch.

I don't know if the Bonus features were discussed by others but at least one was a fine reason to get the set on DVD. There's a short blooper reel that's so short it only runs about 2 minutes. And there are a half-dozen "deleted" scenes, most of which don't add much to the story.

But then comes the "Nashville: on The Record Special", which must have aired on ABC after the season was over. It sure must have had a lot of commercials because; when they are excised we are left with 40 minutes. But what an amazing 40 minutes. This is a concert held at the historic Ryman Auditorium and featuring all the singing cast members - with the obvious exception of the show's star (and Executive Producer) Connie Britton. Not only do the actors recreate eight songs from the season, but they do it other members of the cast and - many times - with the original songwriters for the song. Nashville has a great stable of songwriters and - thanks to this "bonus" - they get to be seen and heard and they relate how they wrote each song. Also on stage at the concert is Music Direct Buddy Miller, a Nashville icon, and his band that includes the amazing Colin Linden and Viktor Krauss. You don't get a much better band than this in Nashville.

So, if you've only seen the TV show and missed some episodes - or saw the show and want to hear the songs again, I can highly recommend this set.

Season Three is on now but I'll just wait till the DVD set is released to see where the story goes .

I hope you found this review both informative and helpful!
