What the "Blues" are all about!, November 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Nasty Blues (Paperback)
Tom has done his homework. He gives a very good historical review of the blues and the men and women who played/sang them. He gives equal treatment to both sexes. As he says,"For every Bo Carter asking for warmth to his "weiner," (Please Warm My Weiner) there is a Maggie Jones inviting all within earshot: "Anyone Here Want to Try My Cabbage?"
My favorites are "Mother Fuyer" and "Crowin' Rooster Blues".
If you are into the blues, this is a "must have" book.

Outstanding songs of lifes woes, with great art by R. Crumb, October 25, 1998

The words are pretty tame by today's standards, but 40-50 years ago wow! that's what makes this book so much fun to read. You don't have to play the blues to enjoy this book. Just read it to see why "my pencil don't write no more".
