Editorial Reviews

Continually shot out of a cannon, PUJOL contorted through his latest flaming hoop with the recording and release of the EP Nasty, Brutish, and Short. Moving at the speed of the '60's, the EP becomes PUJOL's 10th release in less than two years after acclaimed singles, full lengths and EPs on various labels. Nasty, Brutish, and Short focuses on fragmentation, compartmentalization, and the idea of cultural maxims dominating the individual's ability to vocalize and interact with the external world.

Biography

A kludge is:
"A clumsy or inelegant solution to a problem."
"An ill assorted collection of poorly matching parts, forming a distressing whole."
"A crock that works."

In February of 2013, Daniel Pujol set out to write and record the follow-up to his debut album, 2012's UNITED STATES OF BEING. Pujol and producer Doni Shroader set up shop in Mt. ... Read more in Amazon's PUJOL Store

Pujol is a Nashville band that was formed in 2009. They've released 2 - 4 pieces of work each year (full albums, EP's and/or singles) over the last 3 years. You can feel Jack White's influence -- Pujol has great punk sounding songs, as well as some slower acoustic tunes. The top songs on this album are "Point of View" and "Mayday."

The first verse and chorus from "Mayday":

Walking back from superstition
You don't know you can be that way
But then this library's got you crissin
An ace you call a spade's a spade, so
Change your name to your position
You're makin all your tassels sway
Forward sidekick nepotism
But you don't got to be that way
Cause I love to hear you speak because I
I dig the things you say

You're gonna wear that crown all over town
Like you're the king of May
The king of May
The king of May
The king of May
The king of May

Daniel Pujol's take on his album from an October, 2011 interview:

"And I guess E-merican Realism has to do with the culture industry meeting the public and political sphere in the middle through the medium of the internet, which I think is a brand new and interesting contraption for identity formation of being able to reinforce your own identity through things like social media in the physical sense. The EP is kind of like a funny, dystopian almost, take on what if ideological consistency and identity and consumerism and politics and culture and all of these things turn into, like, God being a robot."

PUJOL has a lyrical talent matched by very few. He makes up for his instrumental simplicity (which sometimes simplicity is better) with unique vocals and insightful lyrics. Furthermore, not only does he sound great on the album, but he sounds great live too. I wouldn't be surprised to see PUJOL to become more and more popular as he comes out with more music. I heavily recommend this album and his newest album United States of Being.
