5.0 out of 5 stars A Public Service Announcement ( 4.5 stars), January 6, 2010
This review is from: Nasty (Zane Presents) (Paperback)
Nicola is a newly divorced and beautiful woman. But she harbors a lot of bitterness and resentment due to things that happened in her life. She takes out her aggression through sex and takes out every man in her path. But when she set her sights on an unsuspecting family, there may be disastrous consequences for all that are involved. Nicola first gets involved with a young music executive name Carlos. Carlos is a playboy that's not looking for a long term relationship. Carlos quickly changes his mind when Nicola starts a steamy affair with him. Unbeknownst to Carlos, Nicola also has his brother Jonathan in her clutches. Jonathan is a young man that has successfully practiced abstinence until Nicola seduces him. Things get even more confusing as Carlos' mother reunites with her first love, who is also the father of his older brother Tarik.

Nasty is an entertaining and thought provoking novel by Dr. XyZ. This author brought us a twisted tale that has very realistic consequences. Dr. XyZ did a wonderful job of linking all of the characters to one another. This story serves as a public service announcement of how the HIV and AIDS epidemic is still alive and well. It also shows the end result of promiscuous behavior and how everyone needs to be responsible for their own protection. It would have been nice if the author delved more into the past of Nicola's mother, but maybe that will be explained in a future book. Nasty is a gripping and raw debut novel by Dr. XyZ.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Than Meets The Eye, January 3, 2010

This review is from: Nasty (Zane Presents) (Paperback)
NASTY is about a young woman whose life began horribly, from the moment she was born, and how the circumstances of her life have taken her on a rampage. Nicola is trying to get over a bitter divorce, but the pain and hurt from her ex's betrayal has her opting for a take no prisoner's attitude. On one of her late night rendezvous, she meets Carlos, a music manager and they have an instant attraction, but Nicola is infatuated with his innocent younger brother. Nicola has a plan to get involved with both brothers, which means hot sex with both men.

Nicola's plan seems to be going well, but she has made an enemy out of the mother and brother. Nicola does not care about making enemies she is only after getting rid of the pain of her past. When an unfortunate incident occurs, she will question whether it was all worth it.

Filled with drama, sex and passion, NASTY is more than the provocative cover. The story is more than dangerous sexual liaisons; it deals with family, love, drug addiction, strength, perseverance and a lesson on promiscuity. This was a true page-turner. Nicola had several layers to her character, but so did the other characters in the story which gave them depth and belivabily. Although there were moments of incredulity, the essence of the story; preventive healthcare is clear. I especially enjoyed how all of the characters were connected in some way to Nicola and Dr. XYZ did a wonderful job intertwining them. Although the cover gave me a moment of pause, the story within was compelling.

4.0 out of 5 stars Think before you act!, September 20, 2009
This review is from: Nasty (Zane Presents) (Paperback)
This was a good book. I was just perusing the bookstore and decided to give this author a chance and I was pleasantly surprised. At first, I was kind of wondering where the story was going but then it took off and never stopped. Really an eye opener and a must read for single people still out there playing russian roulette with their lives. I think the author's comments at the end are probably just as informative as the book. Good job XYZ whoever you are.

Maybe it's just me but everything in this story was too coincidental. It made the story unbelievable, predictable, and WHACK. Definately not worth $7.99

I started off reading NASTY because it was seemed to be something I can read just to pass time when needed. But I have to admit Nicola and her 3 midgets changed that thought. This book had it all and is truly a page turner. It was sad that Nicola found true love at the end of her life. This is truly a good read all Thanks to the Good Dr.

I enjoyed this book. It held my interest so much so that I read the whole book in 3 days. I was far too impatient to try to make it last like I do many others. This is why I know that I did not love it. CHapters were short and I loved that bc you could make progress in a short period of time however at times it would take at least 4-5 chapters to get me to a place where I feel like I'm satisfied with the drama for the day... Beyond that the actual story was interesting and really sad. Normally I dislike sad books but it was not bad. There were good sex scenes and ol girl was def sexually free. I loved the characters but was sad to see things go the way they did.

THe only thing truly negative that I can say is... within the 1st half of the book I figured out what was going to happen with an exception of 1 or 2 extra things. After that I was just trying to hurry up and get to the end so the climax could happen and I started to wish it was just a movie so it would just happen already. And there were some typos that drove me crazy here and there... But if you're looking for an interesting story I would recommend it. I definitely do feel entertained after having read it.

This is the first book that I tried to figure out from beginning to end and it never happened. It is realistic and very unpredictable. Nasty is a page turner. When this book took off, I was locked in. Can't wait for the sequel. Loved the PSA.

I really felt this was a good book overall, it was a real eye opener for me as to how people try to get revenge no matter who they hurt & the sad effects of HIV/AIDS
