I got this as a present for my twelve year old and it did the trick.

This is the kind of book that is perfect for keeping kids interested in reading. It has weird and interesting facts, feats and esoterica. Great and vivid photos and layouts make this a book that just keeps inviting one to flip through and read the accompanying info on each item. Not just for youngsters, this is a great hang-around-book for anyone who may want to kill a few minutes or read for longer periods. National Geographic keeps putting out interesting works on the world, adventure and weirdness that keep the reader interested.
