I have been looking for animal atlas or encyclopedia for a while. I decided to get this one for my kids for Chirstmas, and I love it and so do they. It has great pictures, big format and the animals are listed according to the continents they live in. There are continents maps with the animals pictures as well. It is easy to work with. My daughter always asked what animals lived in Africa, now she is able to find it our all by herself with this book.

I bought this book for my daughter from her school book fair. I refuse to buy a book that she will read and it will sit on the shelf so I told her it had to be something that can be looked at again and again- a 'reference' book. I was so surprised by how much she LOVED this book. She was 6 1/2 at the time and it became our nightly ritual reading about a certain animal in a certain region. She loved counting the animals on each page and continues to look back at the book, knows the continents and the animals that live in each continent. Pictures are great!

I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of this book! Definitely gift quality and "coffee table" gorgeous! My granddaughter will love it! Just discovered NatGeo Kids through a NatGeo Kids magazine I ran into a few weeks ago. Within days she had it dogeared & worn & carried it everywhere with her. I picked her up from school one day & she was busy explaining one of the articles to the principal! The phenomenal photography you would expect from National Geographic & quick facts geared to the kinds of questions kids ask about animals.

I bought this book along with the Little Kids First Big Book of...series of books. This is a great book, but my least favorite of the group. I like that it is broken down my continents and shows what animal live where, but I find the information not as relatable to my first grader as the information in the other books. She does love looking at this book and had favorite pages and does learn information. It's a great book, just not quite as great as the others.

I purchased this for our homeschool project for next year, we are going to be learning about different countries around the world. The book is gorgeous with amazing graphics. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't more detailed and specific to countries. There's one or two animals featured for each continent. It's wonderful as a broad over view but if you want detail this isn't the book.

This version has an external envelop to the hardcovers. Put that on the hands of kids and it tears. Older versions of this book have the hardcovers actually printed. Images on the book are great although it's not as informative as the Usborne series.

My 4 years old son is very interested in animals and I bought this colorful book for him. He is going through it every day even multiple times and I am surprised in how much he learns from it. The atlas is divided in sections and each continent is in one of them. It lists the animals living in that particular continent both in a schematic way where they show the distribution on the map and the actual National Geographic quality images. After this introductory page, a few pages follow related to the same continent and include pictures and information about the most striking animals for that continent. The text is kept in minimum yet it includes a lot of interesting facts.

The authors of these book know how to penetrate into the mind of a preschooler and thanks to them my son knows all the continents with most of the key animals that are contained within. I have to admit that he knows way more animals than I do and more than that he can categorize them by matching them with their homelands.

I've really been looking for more text than this offers. It's difficult to find books on animals that aren't bunch of pictures or all text.
