5.0 out of 5 stars "Delivers Songs with Pure Emotion ... Stardust Memories ...Nat King Cole ... Passport Video", October 5, 2006
This review is from: Nat King Cole - Stardust Memories (DVD)
Passport Video celebrates the career of Nathaniel Adams Coles, known professionally as Nat King Cole (March 17, 1919 - February 15, 1965) was a popular American singer, songwriter, and jazz pianist --- "NAT KING COLE - STARDUST MEMORIES" (2005) (38 mins/B&W) ... One of the most beloved vocalists of all time, Nat King Cole paved the way for all African-American entertainers that came after him --- Having made huge inroads into the mainstream acceptance of jazz, the name of Nat "King" Cole has become synonymous with the genre ... the rich vocal stylings that deliver songs saturated in pure emotion, there's nothing quite like seeing Nat "King" Cole play live. STARDUST MEMORIES is a chance to see him perform in an intimate setting, with Cole working his magic on songs such as "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter," "Stardust," "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" --- Watching this DVD is a trip down memory lane, more of a reflection of the choice and quality of Cole's performances in terms of what his fans would be looking for ... must overlook the audio and video of the times and the technologically limited, at least by today's standards.---- It's Nat "King" Cole at his very best!

There is no doubt about it--this DVD will wet your appetite for more of Nat King Cole, who stands on his own as a class act and amazing artist ... Nat King Cole's legendary contributions to music showcased his unique talents in a multitude of ways ... Responsible for what is quite possibly the best recording of a holiday song ever made, "The Christmas Song," --- holds the distinguished role and honor of being the first black musician to ever have a weekly radio and television show --- The television show was unfortunately cancelled because, in the racially charged atmosphere of the 1950s, no one was willing to sponsor it --- Although he died of lung cancer at a relatively young age, Cole's astounding body of work is timeless

The last episode of The Nat King Cole Show aired December 17, 1957 --- Cole had survived for over a year, and it was he, not NBC, who ultimately decided to pull the plug on the show --- NBC and Nat had been operating at an extreme financial loss due to the lack of sponsorship his show received --- Cole quipped shortly after its demise, "Madison Avenue is afraid of the dark." --- once again enjoy those vintage performances just as they appeared decades ago in the small tube...meanwhile pick up your copy of "Nat "King" Cole - Encore" from Amazon or Passport Video and relive those shows from Nat Cole the "King" of Jazz ... no fan of jazz or pop music should miss out!
