Book Description

Nate Wright is known to his pals and teachers for many things, his penchant for mischief and his school record for detentions being the foremost. But beating out brainiac Gina's grades is not one of those things! In Big Nate Makes the Grade, the school life goings-on of Nate, his pals, and his long-suffering teachers are recounted in hilarious detail. Now in full-color!

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...it really speaks to the middle school/middle grade age..." (Esther Keller, School Library Journal's "Good Comics for Kids" blog)

“In addition to the graphic storytelling, Nate’s cartoons interspersed among Peirce’s panels could provide teachers and librarians with great opportunities to incorporate this series into programs or lessons on cartooning and writing.” (Snow Wildsmith, Booklist)

“…if you’re looking for a new series to introduce your kids to this upcoming holiday season, chances are they’ll really like these collections.” (Rich Johnston, Bleeding Cool)

“Big Nate is super funny. I love these books.” (Appeal-Democrat)

5.0 out of 5 stars "DELIGHTFUL, FUN-FILLED, AND HILARIOUS!" August 24, 2012
Format:Paperback
New York Times Best-selling author and cartoonist Lincoln Peirce delivers a fun-filled story with adorable characters that will make you laugh out loud. Nate is well-known in school by his friends and suffering teachers of his behavior and mischief he always gets into. He also knows very much about detention. However, competing with the intelligent Gina on test grades is simply not his style, but will he change his mind and surprise everyone? This funny story will grab the reader's attention to find out what Nate is up to. School life with Nate and his pals entertains, is delightful, and enjoyable. The Big Nate Comic Strip is popular, and the author has contributed animated pilots for cartoon TV shows. Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Big nate makes the grade review May 1, 2013
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
This book, Big Nate makes the grade, is the greatest book in the series. If I feel bored or want to read something, I would go and grab that book of the shelf immediately. Every page in this book fills you with jokes that will blow your mind. It talks about Nates adventures during school life and also summer break life. He has to go through the furious and evil Mrs. Godfrey, and deal with the Braniac Gina who always tries different ways of getting him in trouble. As everything happens to him, he tries to be the best he can, with his style and humor.
All the other books I've read like this one is nothing really compared to this book. I would say you should read this, because books such as diary of a wimpy kid sometimes doesn't make me laugh a lot, or sometimes it doesn't really make sense. So I would recommend this to people who like comedy and comics to. All to fans of big Nate, come and buy it immediately and start reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars A School Year in the Life of Big Nate September 19, 2012
Format:Paperback
Nate Wright is back in this latest collection of "Big Nate" comics from Andrews McMeel Publishing. This collection of strips follows Nate through an entire year of school, from buying back to school socks before the new school year begins to all the pranks Nate plays on the last day of school, known to Nate as Prank Day. "Big Nate" comics are about one mischievous middle school student and middle school students are the target audience of this comic strip. There are a lot juvenile words used, e.g. jerkface and Nate constantly gets into trouble for making fun of his teacher. However, Nate really is a fun loving teacher who deep down, actually likes his teacher, Mrs. Godfrey. The story lines I liked best in BIG NATE MAKES THE GRADE were the ones that dealt with Nate playing Chess. For those new to "Big Nate" comics, the cover of the book is misleading (Nate is holding up a paper with an A+ on it to Gina) because Nate does not get an A+ anywhere in the book. New copies of BIG NATE MAKES THE GRADE include a poster of Big Nate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kristi's Book Nook November 11, 2012
Format:Paperback
If your kids like comic strip characters for a quick fun read, then Big Nate will work just right. A great character for boys who don't necessarily want to have their nose in a typical chapter books. As Nate prepares for another ambitious school year, he fondly refers to school as the "Chamber of Horrors," he begins by trying to find a replacement pair of lucky socks. His old pair are stinky and falling apart from lack of washing. Once in class, Nate is finding that not much has changed. He still has bad luck, he gets on his teachers nerves and some fellow classmates still think he is a jerk and have no problem expressing it.

Nate's laughable point of view will have kids chuckling about his brand of luck and interaction at school. Throughout the pages kids will enjoy his various guides for school "Do's and Don'ts" and "Survive or Else" and "Faculty Interviews" and there are plenty more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Nate books are 101 in how to be a Jerk. January 22, 2014
By Ellen
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'm not a new age, everybody gets a trophy because they tried kind of person. But this kid has nothing to say nice about anybody. Constantly gets into trouble, sent to principal and detention and is rather proud of it. High fives all around! Not the kind of influence I want on my kid. I don't mind some mischief, but not being a down right little spit!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great November 3, 2014
By SO dumb
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was pretty good, except it took me less than an hour to read it. Otherwise, it was a good book. Funny at some parts, and it kept me amused, knowing the fact that it's hard for me to find a book that actually gives me that "can't put down" feeling. I'm picky when finding a good book but I really liked this book. I would recommend this book to anyone that's it to comic's or comedy books
