Forty years of incredible talent and ability working with countless famous artist and founding member of the super group Fourplay we now have from the master himself Nathan East a mind blowing masterpiece.Think of how much the world of music has change since Nathan began his career as a bass player, talent is now replace with technology.I was browsing one day on Amazon and discover his new release and my life as an audiophile gain new traction. I am usually bored and simply frustrated with the lack of real music available and the strangle hold the hip hop/rap generation has on music today. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Amazon community i present to you real music without no preservative,no additives,no artificial ingredients the real deal. Those of us laboring for many years in the field of mediocrity hoping and wishing for the good old days now have something to celebrate. This is truly a masterpiece of epic proportion one that will withstand the test of time and will go down in history as the best album ever made by an artist who actual live in your home for forty years and payed no rent....highly recommended to the world grab it today or forever hold thy mouse.....sincerely Hudson Tannis

For those persons that do not know about Nathan East, please goggle. This new release Nathan included some of the best musicians Michael McDonald, Sara Bareilles, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Kazumasa Oda, Tom Scott, Noah East (Nathan's son), Bob James, Chuck Loeb, Carman Cuesta, Ray Parker, Jr. and David Paich.
I highly recommend this CD and 101 Eastbound was revised from Fourplay's first CD in 1991. The quality of the recording is also noted. This will rank in the top 10 for 2014 I am sure of it.

Chances are you have several CDs with Nathan East playing bass on them. Nathan has played with Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Kenny Loggins, George Harrison, B.B. King, Whitney Houston, Wayne Shorter, Barbra Streisand (yes, THAT Barbara), and even the show I direct, The Edmonton Singing Christmas Tree. If you watched the Grammys, he was featured on Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," one of the biggest records of the year and winner of the Grammy for album & record of the year.

His self-titled solo album is a tapestry of musical styles, filled with phenomenal arrangements and performances from incredible musicians, including original compositions by East, such as the Fourplay standard "101 Eastbound," co-written with his brother, Marcel, and renditions of classics like Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke,” which is impossible to listen to without smiling (as big as Nathan smiles!).

“Letter From Home” is a Pat Metheny composition. I can remember in one of my late night talks with him, he told me of his great affection for Metheny. Michael McDonald brings his distinctive vocals to Van Morrison’s “Moondance”. It starts simply with Nathan & Michael, and then a big band drives this classic in a completely different direction, in a word, “brilliant!”

Proving he is in touch with what’s happening in the music scene and keeps himself up-to-date constantly, Sarah Bareilles sings “I Can let Go Now”, a poignant Michael McDonald tune. Then just to make sure you’re paying attention, “Daft Punk” another original, lays down a hybrid of Jazz, Funk & House music.

Fans of Contemporary Jazz will love Chuck Leob’s (Fourplay guitarist) “Sevente” as well as Bob James’ (Fourplay’s keyboardist) “Moodswing”.

Nathan is well respected for his work as a bassist backing up all kinds of superstars. When I heard he had finally released his first solo album I had to get it.

The bass playing is superb throughout.

There's a nice variety of styles too.

Whether he is backing up Eric Clapton, playing with Toto, Fourplay, on one of the many television shows that have bands or solo, Nathan East is one of the best out there. His versatility and smoothness are a joy to listen to.

Coming off a strong 2013, where Nate was part of the grammy award team from Daft Punk, he strikes it rich again with his solo effort on Yamaha, which is the same parent company as the bass that he plays so well. With people like Stevie Wonder helping out, Nathan East is an album that I can and do listen to while driving and when just kicking back relaxing.

It's so nice to have a great album from the beginning to the end to listen to.

When the world's most celebrated but relatively unknown bass player finally gets around to making his own album (after 30 some years and over 1,000 albums backing every known major recording artist around the world), it's time for everyone to sit up and take notice. And the breadth of his artistry (last year he played on Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and Andrea Bocelli's "Passione") is front and center. There are tracks here to please everyone from the most hardcore jazz aficionado to rock and RnB fan, with some smooth jazz, a Beatle cover and the best rendition of "America The Beautful" that you've ever heard. I'm glad I ordered the physical CD with all the credits and liner notes as well as the Amazon mp3 version to listen to on the go. Get it - if you love all styles of contemporary music, you won't be disappointed.
