5.0 out of 5 stars comfortable grip, cool flip straw, great colors, non toxic
Here is something different on the stainless steel bottle front. Nathan bottles have an ergonomic grip, funky bright designs and colors (and plain ones too), and an interesting spout. It's covered in silicone, has an attached (detachable) straw, and a built-in carabiner type latch to hold your keys--smart!

I can't decide if I like the smaller or bigger ones...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great...but then it leaks...6 months after purchased
I purchased this bottle in October 2010, and it was great! I loved it, I purchased it because it looked more durable than the Camelbaks and wasn't plastic! I had a BPA-free bottle in the car, and it melted, so I definitely wanted to steer away from that. So even though, it said it was ok to dishwash, I didn't. I just washed it by hand and let it air dry. I never put any...

I can't decide if I like the smaller or bigger ones better (they come in different sizes and I've tried both), as the smaller bottles have a super comfortable grip and seem to hold just the right amount of water for errand running while the larger bottles would be ideal for more physical activity. No BPA or toxic anything and innovative design, brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooray!! - The Perfect Bottle, January 19, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
At long bloody last!! I've managed to find a bottle that fits all my requirements.

I had been wanting to change my old, skanky plastic bottles for a good year now after hearing time and time again about how plastic bottles are becoming more and more of a hazard to use due to the increasing talk of links to cancer - particulary from the likes of Sheryl Crowe.

I have always had my own suspicions about plastic being used alongside food and drink and for me and my family, it was becoming a priority to change over to steel. Even PBA free plastic wasn't appealling to me anymore.

I had been searching high and low for something that fits the bill for me, my husband and my 3 young kids and until 4 days ago, I had still not succeeded in finding such a bottle.

And yes, you've guessed it ... the wait is over!

I live in New Zealand and have a UK Amazon account - I ordered the 500ml steel bottle on friday and received it this morning, which is Tuesday! What incredible service - I am very happy with Amazon and the product.

The reasons I love the bottle are because:

- obviously no PBA
- steel is light, but durable
- the bottle feels great in your hand - doesn't feel as if it's about to fall out of your hand when on the move.
- can hold the bottle also by using the lever-end of the flip-straw - either put your finger through the hole or attach it to something using the practical catch.
- straw flips up easily by levering the lever downwards.
- straw closes tightly and so far there have been no signs of leaking at all.
- Easy to unscrew large cap and feels firmly shut when closed.
- looks wise, it's nice to look at and modern in design.
- perfect size for me - I go for light jogs and walks for 1.5 hours and this is excellent for that. Also good for zapping around in the car etc.
- Great size for the kids. Husband would prefer the larger size.
- using the straw really is impressive - there's no need to tilt the bottle to receive water - the straw is large enough to get a good mouthful of water if you need to, without having to suck the living daylights out of it!

Very, very happy with it and I would highly recommend buying one. I will be buying more..

3.0 out of 5 stars Great...but then it leaks...6 months after purchased, February 28, 2011

I never put any hot liquids, just ice and water. It does get some condensation on the sides, but not too bad.

Earlier this month, I noticed that more water than usual was around the bottle, and saw that it leaked under the lid where it screws and under the water hole in the lid, under the yellow part of the straw!! I couldn't believe it. I emailed the Road Runner Sports people, but they would not do anything because there is a 30 day return policy. FAIL. I did not abuse this bottle or anything, I don't hike or do anything outdoorsy, just a student who wanted a good water bottle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly fragile bottle disappoints, October 11, 2011
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I agree with the positive comments about this bottle's overall design. It's clean, ergonomic, light, great size, etc.
And until recently I would have given this bottle much higher marks.

But it hasn't been able to withstand arguably minor knocks.
For example, I was walking on a crowded sidewalk and twisted to avoid a collision. The bottle (harnessed in my backpack's external sleeve) smacked a fence and destroyed the cap's clip. That was super annoying, but the straw and bottle were still functional. But yesterday the filled bottle fell out of the sleeve to the floor (about four feet) and the plastic base of the cap cracked (finito). The steel component is great, but I'm forced to conclude that the other pieces are too weak to last long term.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't hold up, June 17, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We really liked this bottle at first, so much so that we bought about 10 a few weeks later, hoping to replace water bottles entirely for our very active family. We use them in what I think is a fairly normal way: in the car, in the stroller, washed about weekly, and generally cared for. After about two months ALL of the bottles are losing functionality: the straws have stretched and no longer fit firmly and the rubber mouth pieces have cracked, both of which allow a lot of air into the stream of water and make it difficult to drink. The colored film on the outside of the bottle is wearing off on all of those that have it, making them pretty unattractive. When I emailed the company, I didn't get any response at all, which to me is never a good sign. This is one of our worst investments of the year, as I expect that they'll all have to be completely non-functional within a couple of months.

UPDATE:
As other commenters have said, this company does not offer customer service. Absolutely no response to my questions or requests for help. And as I had assumed, these bottles are completely unusable. All of the defects I listed above continued to worsen until we gave up and decided to go with a different brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bottle!, March 1, 2010
This bottle is perfect! I love the fact that it has a straw, b/c I don't have to tip it up to drink if I can't (driving etc) The mouth piece is super comfortable, it's squishy and texturized. The sleeve is great too, not just for good grip, but b/c the bottle isn't as cold/hot to hold. These aluminum bottles can get really cold!! I don't have a single complaint, it's perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good design, December 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Good design and good quality.
Everything is detachable for washing. The bottle feels solid and yet not heavy.
Only thing is the silicone nozzle on top might need replacement after awhile, it's hard to find replacement parts
for that.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sweats a lot, July 11, 2011
I am surprised to see all the good reviews of this bottle. My husband and I went together to buy bottles, I chose the Nathan because of the grip and bright colors. My husband chose a brand with the dreaded bite valve that I hate. I should have listened to him. My bottle sweats a lot and makes a mess and the water gets warm really quickly. My husband's bottle will keep ice for over 24 hours and never sweats. Needless to say I am jealous and have to chunk the Nathan. It's too bad since I really do despise bite valves.

4.0 out of 5 stars perfect cup for growing children!, March 16, 2011
I bought this in an attempt to make my child more "responsible" about his drinking, he is 2 and getting a little addicted to his sippie cups and I hoped that having an actual straw cup would be an easier transition. These cups are great for kids 2 and up (they would probably leak like crazy and be a little hard to use for younger children) they are completely appropriate for the growing child and also a fun way to pack lunch. My older 5 year old daughter loves these cups so it worked well.
The cup leaks a lot when its open and upside down. It is as I hoped a great maturing cup but the leaking is a little annoying. I also bought 6 and 2 of them were plastic and I didn't know, it didn't specify when they were ordered that 2 would be plastic I thought I was getting all steel. Besides these small things these cups are incredible durable and cute! They are easy and fun for the kids. Great for getting them off the sippie into a more realistic drinking habbit with the straw and keeping as they grow! Awesome buy, perfect if they could fix the leaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great go-to bottle!, August 30, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I needed a water bottle that would be suitable for both the gym and work. I already had a Sigg bottle, but I didn't like its sport-top spout. Additionally, I didn't like swigging from it in front of my class. Nathan's flip straw bottle fit the bill for both gym and work. The straw makes it easy to drink while doing my cardio and I'm no longer chugging at my water bottle while teaching.

The bottle keeps water cold for a long time--an added benefit is the wide mouth, which allows you to add ice cubes if you want. I highly recommend this water bottle!
