From the Inside Flap

America is in danger from elements within and outside her borders that want to undermine the principles, beliefs, and core truths upon which she was founded. Political pundits, liberals, and social interest groups are trying to skew our constitutional ground rules. We need a compass to guide us back to the path of destiny and greatness. America needs people who know the truth, speak the truth, and stand for the truth. Unfortunately, many of us are simply not aware of the clear constitutional and biblical principles that initiated and governed the course of this union. So we sit quietly and idly by as our liberties and freedoms are removed one by one. It’s time to be armed with the information that will help us stand and speak out with conviction. This book was written to help you do just that!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written fanatical tirade December 6, 2008
If you thought this would provide some insight in alternative schooling you will be disappointed. Dunbar, who ironically and unbelievably sits on the Texas Board of Education, believes that public school is a "perversion" and should be banned but offers no ideas or help with home school based education. God Bless America that she can write this stuff but don't waste your money on this uneducated rant.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terribly Dull, Dully Terrible April 19, 2009
Credit where it's due: Cynthia Dunbar was smart enough to publish her loopy rant in such mind-numbing legalese, it's difficult to pull any single quote that really indicts her as the kooky theocrat she is. (Her cohort on the TX State Board of Education, Don McLeroy, is far more entertaining.) She does call public education a "subtly deceptive tool of perversion," and she equates sending children to public schools to, "throwing them into the enemy's flames even as the children of Israel threw their children to Moloch." And, despite the subtitle, much of her scorn is reserved not just for the Left but for moderates, who are "on the side of evil, and their fate is sure." But the book is really one long monument to far-far-right delusions and must be suffered through in its entirety to get the full effect.

One of the more breathtakingly stupid passages claims liberals are evil because they are on the "left", and conservatives are righteous because they are on the "right". It's just that simple--Ecclesiastes told her so.

The book is blessedly short but still not worth the read. I suspect even religious conservatives will be put off by Dunbar's self-righteousness. But everyone should take note: the TX State Board of Education on which Dunbar sits sets standards that influence textbooks throughout the US. So even though you don't have to read Dunbar's nonsensical ideas, your children might. Dunbar is up for re-election in 2010.

1.0 out of 5 stars Making Texas a laughingstock April 14, 2009
Thank heaven it's finally being realized what kind of people are dominating the Texas Board of Education: unbalanced extremists who believe the Book of Genesis should be taken literally, that the earth is 10,000 years old (and was created in a week), that dinosaurs frolicked around Adam and Eve, that Obama is a Marxist Socialist Fascist terrorist. I mean, I have no problem believing God created the universe, but what does that have to do with teaching science and evolution?

The great irony is that these extremists, like dentist creationist Chairman Don McLeroy, home school their kids!

At least we know enough now to vote them out as soon as the next election comes along. Take out the trash!

1.0 out of 5 stars One Nation, under delusions December 8, 2008
I would have preferred some semblance of truth or facts in this book. Trying to force history to fit into an uneducated view of religion is disturbing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fundamentalist nonsense December 7, 2008
Yet another book full of creationist tripe and subliterate interpretations of the US Constitution. If I somehow accidentally drove over this book with my car, I'd take it to a car wash right away.

1.0 out of 5 stars Better used as toilet paper May 28, 2009

Uninformed, delusional, and full of pointless and horrible writing with numerous logical flaws and fallacies. At no point was a reasonable point made and we are all dumber for having read it.

The woman should be ashamed for attempting to write and may Odin have mercy on her tattered and nonexistent soul.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book undermines education everywhere. July 9, 2009
There is no way this book can be for real. It has to be a great example of "Poe's Law". But then I found out she is on the Texas Board of Education, and is currently in the running for the Chair Postion. I cannot fathom anyone wanting her to be on the State BOE much less the Chair. In this books she states that our public education is a perversion. She needs to be voted out of office and no one should read this stuff.

1.0 out of 5 stars You know what's awesome? Reality. November 8, 2010
By Cass L
By reading this book, you'll get to enjoy charming tidbits about how the idea of hate crimes is unfair to white people (seriously?), how homosexuals are destroying the nation (but she doesn't HATE them, of course not!), and how Christopher Columbus just wanted to share Christianity with the native peoples of the Americas (seriously??). The only educational value of this book is seeing how taking random quotes out of context and using them as support is just NOT THE WAY TO GO when composing an argument.

I'm pretty sure Jesus would hate this book.

Well said Russell about free speech. We live in a great country because of it. What is interesting about Dunbar is that she created this Obama "issue" to promote her book. She is a member of the Texas Board of Education and in her book she ridicules public education calling it a... Read more
