I heard Laura Erickson review this book on her show "For the Birds". She loved the book and so do I. It contains a wealth of information and the photography and drawings are fantastic. Well worth the money and of the caliber you would expect from National Geographic.

As others have said, it's a nicely illustrated book and very good for someone overall interested in BIRDS. I don't believe it will satisfy someone who is seriously into birding or who is seeking richer information - it didn't for me - so I happily gave it to a friend.

The song says, "the things that you're liable to read in the bible, they ain't necessarily so." However, this is NOT true of this bible. This is the true word of bird.

Lots of photos, great information. A good companion to other books like Hummingbirds: Facts and Folklore from the Americas for birders.

Bought this for my wife as she likes to relax on the patio and watch and identify the many birds on the golf course behind us. We have plants and flowers to attract them, hummer feeders, so the yard is full of birds. This book makes it easy to identify the species we see. Many, just like the one on the cover, come flying through. Near the ocean so get species from there. Have everything from parrots, sea gulls, egrets, wild peacocks, hawks, owls, hummers, etc.

This book was what I expected it to be. I was expecting more about the telling of the types of birds and what their habitats were and such. It seemed more like a history of birds.

This is a lovely and informative book, adding much that is not appropriate in field guides. The art is worthwhile in its own right. It adds depth to the whole birding experience.
