5.0 out of 5 stars Family Reference Atlas a gem
This atlas is a beutiful compact version of National Geographic's bigger atlases, still with many thematic maps on up-to-date topics as well as covering all parts of the globe in impressive cartographic detail. 14 pages of maps and illustration on Space alone present a great visualization of our universe. 3.0 out of 5 stars Family Atlas of the World
The content was OK but much detail gets lost in the gutter of the book.

I found the quality control odd as the cover (not the slip cover) but the book cover was put on upside down.

Book should have been cheaper with that kind of flaw in production.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deluxe Atlas at Fair Price, December 21, 2009

As an atlas collector, this one rates well. This is a beautiful book with a fantastic durable cover. It's content is current (including newer countries such as Kosovo), providing the reader the necessary information on not just each country of the world, but also territories and every U.S. state. In comparison to National Geographic's Collegiate World Atlas, it does not provide the same cartographic detail as that slightly more compact atlas, but makes up for it with easy-to-read country bio information, including flags. A great buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars very good atlas for children, January 18, 2011

Very well done, with a lot of information. But what I think is missing is the different regions / provinces in foreign countries, since they determine a specific part of the nation ; it would be like having a map of the United States without showing the States' boundaries.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I absolutely would!! I LOVE this book. It is such a wonderful resource guide! I sat through the "Look inside" section on Amazon before I purchased, but I was already amazed at how awesome it was. When I finally got it into my hands........WOW!!
I am a Homeschooling mom and I am willing to bet that this book is going to be around for MANY years and get tons of use, not only by the children, but by us parents as well. I am so glad we bought this book. I did get a rather sweet deal on the price at nearly 1/2 off the retail price but after getting it, I would totally have paid retail for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great reference like the National Geographic maps I remember as a kid, January 10, 2011

I bought this as a homeschool reference for my four children (Ages 3-11), along with the National Geographic World Atlas for Young Explorers. My oldest finds this one fascinating and pages through it in her free time. I've enjoyed it too, and have enjoyed some of the more unusual sections like the one on the universe. A great visual reference.

I bought this atlas as a Christmas present for my wife. It is as high quality as all NG publications and she is very pleased with it. It arrived well packed and in good condition. It was about 1/3 the price of some other atlases.

The variety and beauty of the maps outshine any other atlas I have researched. This is a great source of info as well as incentive to simply browse the marvels of the world. While the book itself was just as expected, the packing was none existent: the atlas slid around unprotected in a large box during transit and the cover was torn. Did somebody forget the bubble wrap? I've never received an item that was so poorly packaged.

3.0 out of 5 stars not the book I thought it was, January 20, 2011

The Atlas is great but not the one I thought it was. By the time you return it and get another it's too much fuss. Go for the more expensive one if you want lots of bells and whistles...I will next time.
