5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended., December 13, 2006
This review is from: National Geographic Family Reference Atlas of the World, Second Edition (Hardcover)
The new edition of Family Reference Atlas of the World represents more than a reprint: it adds some 15,000 changes and includes over thirty new pages, expanding the Europe section and adding a section of maps on the Caribbean. New locations and maps have been added since the last, with everything revamped and updated to provide home and library users alike with a gorgeous, polished contemporary result. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy, but worth it's weight in gold., November 29, 2007

National Geographic puts out a quality product. In this age of online-tech, which seems so fleeting, this atlas of the world is solid. I like printed reference materials. This is the ultimate in printed reference for a world atlas. World borders will ultimately change, but for the next decade, I would highly recommend this atlas. It is hardcover and the paper is of the best quality, so it's heavy to hold, but lay it down and explore the world. There is much info to learn. If you just want a map, or you want to learn more about a region, how can you go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comprehensive content, December 27, 2008

Before ordering this atlas from Amazon, I looked through many comparable atlases at a local mega-bookstore. My son was doing a social studies project, and needed more than just maps. This atlas fit the bill. It has several sections with detailed information on all sorts of different subjects including climate, globalization, environmental stresses, languages, economies, etc. It has some of the information you would expect to find in an encyclopedia, and is very well presented. I'm sure it will get much use for more school assignments in the future.

I read and saw this good atlas, here in Brazil. This book is big and has a good hard cover.Even the paper quality is excellent. This atlas is also almost complete.Every continent and contry is on it.There's maps with climate of every continent and country. All big cities are on it.Even there's information about Antartic bases and informations about the Moon and Mars planet.
Even so, I won't give five stars for this book.I'll show you some razons:
1-On page 63, there's an information claiming that China has the greatest hydroeletrical potential. In fact, China has the biggest hydroeletrical production.Brazil, not China has the biggest potential.
2-On page 55, the politicidies of Fidel Castro, Sandinist in Nicaragua and the colombian FARC are forgotten.
3-On page 54, the brazilian iron ore that is the biggest of the world is missed.
4-On page 66,there's an information about desertification of large parts of Brazil.Any of them are on desertification process.
*************************************************************
Even with these minor failures, this book is gook and is the best Atlas I ever had.Any other atlas, I ever saw is just regular, compared to this very good book.

I bought it for a very inexpensive price. I have to say it is a beautiful atlas. It gives so much info as well as each map is big. It has been neat to show my children where in Italy there relatives live. Great resource for any family especially homeschool families.

This book is very good to read and learn about the world. The pages were in perfect condition. The cover was dented in in several places, and torn.
