5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Watch - Better Looking than Amazon's Picture, November 21, 2008

This review is from: National Geographic Men's NG771B Aviator Solar Slide-Rule Bezel Watch (Watch)
I am very happy with this watch. I had originally bought a Fossil watch, but returned it because it lacked a luminous dial. I took a chance with this one and am glad I did.

Pros:
- Great looking. The watch I received looks somewhat different than it does in the image provided here. In Amazon's picture, the center portion of the face is milky white. On my watch, it is nearly black in that same region, and it looks much better. I have gotten several compliments on its appearance. A colleague at work who wears a > $1000 watch asked about it because he thought it was cool.
- Good functionality. I personally like the 3 smaller dials, which display the day of the week, numeric date, and hour in military time. The slide rule feature is cool, although I probably won't have much cause to use it.

Cons:
- If your eyesight is failing, it will be difficult to read some of the smaller dials.
- The manual is okay as far as watch manuals go, but not that great.
- You don't want to forget to charge it. The manual indicates it will stay charged for 6 months after a full charge.
- The watch I received has some small particles on the face side of the glass. I will count that as a manufacturing defect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shiny!, January 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: National Geographic Men's NG771B Aviator Solar Slide-Rule Bezel Watch (Watch)
After a few intial hiccups, the watch has been performing flawlessly. The watch came with the wrong instruction manual and wouldn't keep time initially because the battery had been drained from being in the box for many months. After a few hours in the sunlight and downloading the correct manual off the internet, it worked great. Time keeping has been fine. The bezel slide rule is quite nice. It rotates in both directions using an adjustment knob. The control of the slide rule alignment is therefore very precise. The converse point is that the rotation is fairly slow, so if you have to do a different calculation in may take a non-insubstantial amount of time to rotate the dial.

Overall, a very nice watch at a decent price for what you get.
