We own several National Geographic Readers. I found the Polar Bear issue was very informative and will be a good reader to start with. I found this particular issue to be the best Level I Reader.

Love these little books by National Geographic. They of course are loaded with wonderful pictures and informative text, but be aware that you are likely to find them much, much cheaper at your local dollar store than on here. These books are very, very thin and will not likely hold up to repeated readings or children who are rough with books.

I gave this book to my granddaughter along with a certificate from World Wildlife Fund for the adoption (a donation which will help the Polar Bears). The book is simple format, and includes questions for children. When her school starts, she can tell the class about her gift, and share this book with them. She was delighted. I plan to do the same for my other grandchildren on their birthdays. It was the "hit" gift.

It's National Geographic! Good descriptive easy-to-read writing and excellent pictures. Kids love it and parents (this one at least) will be pleased with the format.

This is a good book for building reading confidence. The story provides a lot of information about polar bears, Where they live, what they eat (without being to graphic about their predatory nature). Almost all of the words are sight words or at least a child can sound them out fairly simply. The photos of the bears are amazing! My son was so happy that he could read this entire book by himself with minimal help from mom.
