I had to order a second copy for a friend!
I bought this book to send to someone, but I couldn't part with it. It's my very first coffee table book. My friend's copy is being shipped now. Cat Shots is beautiful--the photos are stunning, and the spare write ups keep it from being schmalzy.

A sense of disappointment
As a collector of cat books, I had anticipated "National Geographic Cat Shots" being something special, especially with the quality of the cover photograph. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Although a good collection of photos, I felt that they didn't reflect the true nature and character of the cat.

What a fantastic book! Congratulations National Geographic. The best I've seen in cats. Highly recommended.

Around the world with Felis Domesticus, December 30, 2010
This review is from: National Geographic Cat Shots (Hardcover)
Think "National Geographic" and your first association is probably distant lands, exotic peoples, and wild animals in their native habitat. But many NG photographers were closet cat-lovers who, when a cat wandered into a scene, were wont to take its picture if only for themselves. Cats in a Hungarian gypsy camp, a Hudson River Valley town, the Hawaiian islands, and a village along Mexico's Camino Real; cats cuddled by a Parisian Left Banker, a tattooed Sioux Indian cowboy, and a child of wandering Hindu Lohars; cats relaxing on a mat beside a young fortune in pearls, dozing contentedly under an Irish cookstove, tucked cozily into a miniature shipboard hammock, basking in Shakespeare's garden in Stratford-on-Avon, gazing up a ballerina's statuesque legs, sharing a Paris cafe booth with a customer, and being fed by a Roman aileurophile in the ruins of the Forum; cats with doggy friends; cats stranded atop a NYC flagpole, paddling through a Mississippi River flood, or striding purposefully across the snow near a vacant trailer in Quebec--they're all here, mostly in color, in the magazine's trademark splendidly composed shots. The cat lover in your life will definitely purr over this volume.
