This book touched on a little of everything around the world. It looked at history, fossils, animals, new creatures being discovered and all kinds of things that were different and out of the ordinary.

I'm generally a fan of the "uncle johns" and "stupid history" type factoid-quick-read books. This one didn't quite come up to par. I think National Geo needs to up their game in terms of a bit more humor and edginess. For something called "tales of the weird" it was a bit too much "discovery channel" documentary in content and tone... Yet not quite rigorous enough for that. So in the end it hits an unsatisfying "middle ground" between quirky and funny versus providing meaty content.

I was not expecting this to be as voluminous as a novel. Only gripe I have is that I would have liked the pics to have been in color. It's all black and white. However, it is jam packed with interesting tales.

This is a very interesting book filled with tons of facts. I gave it four stars out of five, because two thirds of the info in there I already knew. Now, I'm into weird facts and the like, so if you're not like me, you'll finds lots of stuff in here to keep your mind occupied. I am going to pass this book along to my friends. For me, been there, read that.

This book does exactly what it says. It has recurrent stories of events that are outside of what the average person considers "normal." I think that it is a valuable book if you want to expand your horizons to see how different the world is from what people think it is. It is a good book for the rigid personality that is afraid to step outside their box of comfort since they think that life has to be a certain way and only that. For them, this is soothing book that will awaken them by shaking their world. In that sense it is therapeutic. I enjoyed this book greatly.
