This review is from: National Geographic Traveler: New York, 3rd Edition (Paperback)
I love the National Geographic Traveler series books in general because they are not boring to read like other travel books. These books are full of beautiful pictures, useful information and they break down the city in easy to manage chunks. The NYC book in particular has a color map of the metro system on the inside cover which makes it very easy to navigate around the city. The book starts off with a brief history and a suggestion on how to manage your time when visiting the city. The chapters of the book are about a particular region, like the meatpacking disttict or the village or downtown, it states the associated metro stops, along with ideas of what to see, what to do and where to eat. Totaaly recommend for anyone visiting for the first time or thier 10th time, it really is a great resource!

Could have been much better,
This review is from: National Geographic Traveler: New York, 3rd Edition (Paperback)
I was disappointed at this book. I was expecting something far better from National Geographic. More detailed explanations, legends for price ranges or at least a Manhattan map maybe. This book fails the reflect the variety of activities that you can do in New York. Instead it lists rules for not making noisy conversations or not leaning on the bars in subway. This insider tips were unsatisfactory. I referred to it only once or twice during the week we spent in New York. It was not worth carrying it around. |
