Editorial Reviews

Wanna scare a kid? National Geographic has cooked up a frightening foodfest of the world's scariest creatures, all of them quite hungry, in Creepy Creatures. This not-for-the-squeamish romp opens with dark scenes at a typical haunted house. But the host, Clawdette the black cat (wickedly voiced by Kathleen Turner), soon puns and purrs her way through a colorful, quick-paced selection of graphic close-ups and music videos. Some of the most disturbing bits include the bloodsucking vampire bat, the cobra stunning and swallowing a rat--tail first--and the thoroughly detailed description of how a black widow spider eats a grasshopper. The music video titled "Be Afraid" caused one 5-year-old to jump back from the television screen. Interesting facts about each critter make the video as educational as it is creepy. But be forewarned: it's definitely creepy! Named by Parenting magazine in 1999 as one of the best video choices for kids. --Liane Thomas

Product Description

Clawdette the Black Cat wants to introduce you to a ghoulish gallery of nature's creepiest creatures. You'll come face-to-fang with everything that slithers, scuttles, flaps, or attacks in this hair-raising, skin-crawling festival of fright. Visit vampires in a bat cave, watch a black widow poison her prey, and dodge the deadly drool of the largest lizard in the world, the Komodo dragon. There are lots of horribly good songs and fun along the way. You're sure to come down with a frightful case of thrills and chills in this terrific tour of nature's nasties!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Halloween video for kids!, March 26, 2006

This review is from: National Geographic's GeoKids: Creepy Creatures [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My sons used to watch this video every year at Halloween, and even showed it in their "theater" in their class "store." The narrator has a delightfully witchy voice and makes this educational video very entertaining as well as informative. "Visit vampires in a bat cave, watch a black widow poison her prey, and dodge the deadly drool of the largest lizard in the world, the Komodo dragon. There are lots of horribly good songs and fun along the way..."
