1.0 out of 5 stars National Geographic sells out with an awful new style, October 13, 2004
By
This review is from: National Geographic's Most Amazing Moments (DVD)
This National Geographic documentary employs a new and unfortunate production style. It imitates the crude and exploitive TV shows like "when animals attack" and the police chase videos, only it is much more crude. Animals are shown being eaten alive with instant replays of the carnage or rewinding the film to show it again and again. This is stuff worthy of the most B-grade film and goes against everything NG stands for,a disgraceful excuse for a documentary that belongs in sideshow alley.
The commentary is loud and sensationalist with loud music and constant fast cutting from shot to shot. Absolutely dreadful.
If you want a documentary with action, then go for other much better National Geographic documentaries like "30 Years Of National Geographic Specials","Nature's Fury" or "Volcano" because at least they are well made and don't use the fast cutting style and crude dialogue of this special.
This is not the sort of film that National Geographic is known for and,in effect,National Geographic have sold out with this awful special.
I have 35 National Geographic DVDs and they are intelligent and thoughtful shows, unlike this travesty of a documentary.
This is the worst produced National Geographic special that I have ever seen and I hope that they never go down this sensationalist road again.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for classroom, December 21, 2008

This review is from: National Geographic's Most Amazing Moments (DVD)
As an inner city teacher, I find the National Geographic series to have excellent material for the classroom that deliver the message without being boring or monotonous.
