Dudley Moore stars as the voice of Spin, a world-wandering, animated globe in this edition of National Geographic's Really Wild Animals series. With Spin narrating a journey from the Arctic to the Antarctic and many places in between, the video starts with the tale of a mother polar bear emerging from hibernation with newborn cubs in tow. This sense of kinship runs through the entire presentation, culminating with scenes of a human family researching penguin and whale preservation. Polar Prowl showcases many types of polar wildlife, from arctic rabbits and the South Pole's elephant seals to New Zealand's Snares Island penguins, entertaining as well as informing us as we are treated to several catchy and educational songs. Important keywords pop up on screen as they are defined in a typical example of the video's style--explaining the intricacies of nature in ways that children can understand. --Zachary Lively

Product Description

Get ready for chills and thrills when you travel to the icy Arctic and Antarctic with Spin, National Geographic's animated globe-on-the-go! Pal around with a polar bear mom and her cuddly cubs north of Norway, tangle with a toothy tribe of walruses on an ice floe in the Arctic Ocean, and cruise with killer whales off the Canadian coast. Then migrate to the South Pole, where playful penguins, slippery seals, and hungry humpback whales swim in the slushy seas of Antarctica. Award-winning cinematography and magical music videos show how polar animals rule in the cool. So come explore the ends of the earth....on a POLAR PROWL! It's just one of the many Really Wild Animals adventures in this award-winning series.

This review is from: National Geographic's Really Wild Animals: Polar Prowl [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video was fast-paced, entertaining, and highly educational. My first grade class was mesmerized by the content and I was able to stop and explain along the way. It has also become a winter favorite with my own children, ages 3 & 10.
