Sturdy piece

Pretty sturdy. Wanted some cheap extra insurance for our basement back door and I think this does the trick. Fair price too. For reference I used size 14 three inch screws. Needs a 1/8 in drill bit size for the pilot holes.

After the recent home invasion I decided to increase my security in every way possible. I live in a very upscale area in Henderson,NV. My front door was kicked in while I was home and armed. I saw that the hinges were the weakest hardware on the door. My contractor informed me that the rear door for the gargage was one second most attacked object, after the sliding patio glass doors. We examined the door and we were able to see that it had been forced open in the past. I ordered 2 sets of these 2x4 holders. They are mounted between the 3 hinges. One half way down between the highest and middle hinge. The other between the middle hinge and the lowest hinge. It does require that you cut out a section of molding to allow the 2x4 to side in and out. It does require 8 inch 5/16 cartridge bolts to fasten from the outside wall to the inside. The holes in the brackets are only 1/4 inch. Drill them open and I used large washers on the outside. I sure that a SWAT team coud not open this door now.This part was used with the closed bar holder as a pair.

Great for using 2 X 4 to hold larger door closed

These work great for using with a standard 2 X 4 to lock a door closed from the inside. Much better than any Latch you could find. I have a 10ft opening with 2, 5ft doors. I used 4 of these near in a line at the top and 4 in a line near the bottom with 2 standard 8ft 2 X 4 to keep the doors closed and aligned so they don't warp out of shape. I gave them a 4* because the mounting area with 3 holes I think should have been longer because there isn't much surface area compared to the leverage of the 2 X 4 that you slide in.

Strangely enough, this item which allows the use of a simple length of plain 2 X 4 lumber to bar a door is not available locally at any of the local hardware or big-box retailers. With federal judges demanding that our state release criminals because of "overcrowding" and our state's Legislature denying us the use of firearms, a pair of these brackets may be our last line of defense for our homes. Thank God I found it on Amazon.

Great added door security

The installation was easy. I used 5/16" 3 inch hex screws into the door frame. The wood brace (6 foot 2x6) fits perfectly into the slot either side of the door. It should provide excellent security for my double doors. At the bottom floor level, I also installed a "Nightlock." Additionally, I replaced the 1-inch screws in the hinges with 3-inch 12 gauge screws.

Ultimate Security = Barring the Doors!

After having the door to my shop kicked in, I turned to this 100% solid solution. Nothing else is as good. I've tried locks, deadbolts, and bars. This is 100% because it's a blockade.

Note that the best way to set this up is to use:

1. Deck screws or lag bolts, connecting it to the door framing members, so the 2x4s that go around the door.
2. Use this open bar holder on one side and then the closed holder on the other. The closed one is here: http://www.amazon.com/National-N235291-Closed-Holder-doors/dp/B000BO9NFI/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_y
3. Then you just need a 2x4 to span the gap. I suppose you could also use a metal pipe, but the 2x4 fits great

So for about $12 you've got more security than any lock or bar will ever offer. I've even seen people use two of these, one up and one down, but that seems like overkill to me. Let me know if this was helpful!
