Very attractive, easily installed, BUT there isn't enough room for your fingers in the recess of the lock side or the other side. My old pull works 10 times more easily.

Color: Chrome Verified Purchase
I got an old chrome pocket door latch that looks like this, but home depot no longer carries the chrome color. After a lot of research I found this. After installing it, it is so HARD to pull !!! So I compare it with my old one and realize the same as another review. The recess is too flat and curved that the fingers can't really "hook" on something to pull. I think the design is just wrong to begin with and the quality is also bad. The latching spring inside is so flimsy that it falls off quite easily. I should've spent another 1/2 the prices to return it but, my contractor threw out the package already. :( Guess I'll keep googling.

Difficult to operate because the finger knob is too small, and the mechanism is poorly designed. Pocket doors are a compromise to begin with, and it seems the latch mechanism design has not been improved on in 50+ years. Add to this the fact that a marginal design has been degraded further with cheap off-shore manufacturing to save a few pennies, and you have a product that is worse than worthless. So far unable to find an acceptable alternative, at any price, for my client's bathroom pocket doors.

The latch was just what I was looking for to complete my master bedroom, which included two pocket doors. I wanted a latch that could be locked, but could be opened in an emergency if someone locked themselves in the bathroom and need help.

The directions for installation are very poor. For the latch to work correctly more wood needs to be removed from the door. I did this by drilling a hole. There is no directions for installing the latch plate on the door frame. It is very critical to get in the correct location. The latch only grabs about 1/8 inch of the plate.

I purchased this latch to replace an identical latch whose opener had broken. The replacement fit okay with no additional work required on the door. The replacement also completely covered the earlier cutout for the first latch.

I have two criticisms about the latch. The first is that guests using the bathroom for the first time sometimes have difficulty finding the handle with which to pull the pocket door out of its stored location. The second is that my wife occasionally complains about breaking a fingernail when attempting to close the door. The edge around the latch is at 45 degrees instead of 90. This makes it easy for her hand to slip off the latch.

... and I'm not just some retired old guy complaining about the "modern age" (though I am a retired old guy!).

I removed the old, broken unit. I compared them and this one looked as similar to the old one as it did in the pictures. I installed it... it fit right into the original space. Screwed it down, and found two things I'm really not happy with:
- The back edges stick out from the door. No amount of fidgeting with the screws/plates changed it. I reinstalled to old one, it fit tightly against the door. Oh, well, so it sticks out a bit (thought I), so what? I'll tell you so what! It scrapes agains the jam when opening the door! Grrrr. And will continue to until I can (maybe) bend the back edges in a smidge.
-Which brings me to the second, and most problematic problem. For some at-the-desk (I assume) design reason, the vertical edges of the finger holes are no longer right-angled. I does look nice, but if I try to pull/push the door via the push/pull finger holes, my fingers slip out!!! Absolutely stupid "improvement"!!!

PROS: looks very nice, same overall shape as my 25-year old one, easy to replace.
CONS: doesn't fit tightly against my door, the finger holes are smoothed which makes pulling/pushing the door open and/or closed a big PITA!
