These metal stops were made for older homes with old-fashioned aluminum window frames that have sharp-edged tracks. My home is 10-years old and my window frames are far too wide to fit into these safety stops. If the outside edge of the track is 1/8" or more thick, this won't be your solution. It is rather small to provide good patio door security as it is only 5/8" tall, but if you have old-style windows, this would provide security at a reasonable price.

These work really well for sliding windows with narrow rails(the place where you attach the stop). Be careful, a lot of newer sliding windows have thicker rails and these won't work on those.

Most men / intruders can slide the door open with some effort with these in place. I would only buy if you need to keep your kids from sliding the door open. Truly, I think my nearly 5 year old could probably slide open with this in place. Will return - Not happy :-( --- Ad states, "It will lock in a closed or ventilated position." I assumed lock to mean LOCK!

This window stop works as it should to a certain point. The issue I encountered using this is when the wingnut is tightened, it loosens itself over time which loses it's effectiveness of its purpose. To remedy this, I use Loctite Blue.

For years I had relied on the standard Pro-Line aluminum stop that had the set screw bolt right down on to my window frame/track. It worked great. But over time that steady untightening and re-tightening was cutting a hole into the window frame. I tried everything and every product that claimed to quickly and safely secure my sliding windows. Nothing was as secure and quick to use as these stops by National Hardware. Fast to use, reasonable secure, cheap, and won't mar the window frame.

We installed an LG 11,000 btu portable air conditioner (model no. LP1111WXR, purchased from the The Home Depot and probably the same as this LG Lg Portable Air Conditioner 11,000 Btu on Amazon) and used these National Hardware window locks to secure the window.

Our windows are vinyl, and slide vertically, i.e., when installing the a/c unit, we slid the bottom window pane up about 8 inches and installed the vent kit at the bottom of the window. We used two of these locks to prevent the window from sliding up any further. The locks seem to grip well and seem perfectly suited for this type of window.

These work really well if you have the right size sliding windows. They're easy to install and yet my kid can't undo them. They give me peace of mind to be able to open a window and know even if he uses all his strength he can't budge it further. If he does try to open it the top may tilt a little bit but that hasn't been an issue.

Also, love that it doesn't require any permanent installation.

I use two at my glass sliding door. They seem working. Easy to apply or disable. So far so good.
