Book Description

1557012598 978-1557012593 July 1998 Pap/Dsk
Practicing construction attorney James Acret, recognized nationwide as a leading authority on construction law, with over 40 years of experience, presents for the first time the mechanics of lien laws for all fifty states and the District of Columbia in one publictaion, which is crucial to protecting construction professionals' revenue. Since every state has its own unique lien requirements, each one is presented separatly with its own explanation. Most states have preliminary notice filing requirements before filing liens. A contractor, design professional, or material supplier can't afford to wait until after a collection problem arises to look up the applicable law. Likewise, developers, sureties, and construction lenders must take steps to protect themselves at the beginning of the development rather than after payment problems have arisen. Also presented is the Miller Act, which requires payment bonds for the protection of subcontractors and suppliers on federal projects. Ans included is Acret's Simplified Summary of the mechanics lien laws alon with a treatment of stop notice and payment bond remedies.
