Book Description

January 2001 National Pks/Other Wild Places
Many of Malaysia's wildest places are now protected and preserved by well-established national parks and sanctuaries where visitors can see the abundance of wildlife and where landscapes and lifestyles remain unchanged. These reserves cover a wide variety of habitats and offer an experience of nature at close quarters, for example the rainforests of Taman Negara - Peninsular Malaysia's premier national park - Kinabalu Park in Sabah, dominated by the granite peaks of its mountains, and the limestone caves of the Niah and Gunung Mulu national parks. This book profiles all of the main parks and key wild areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah. The highlights of each area - scenery, animal and plant life, indigenous peoples and conservation projects - are given comprehensive coverage, there are also individual maps showing each area's main features, routes and trails. Information panels provide details on such practicalities as access, accommodation, when to go and what activities are on offer.
