Book Description

"Fascinating characters with action off-the-charts. Masterful. . .an entertaining romp."
--Steve Berry

When Terrorism Goes Viral, One Man Goes Ballistic.

They can strike anytime, anywhere. A public landmark. A suburban shopping mall. And now, the human body itself. Three Middle Eastern terrorists have been injected with a biological weapon, human time bombs unleashed on American soil. They are prepared to die. To spread their disease. To annihilate millions. If America hopes to fight this enemy from within, we need a new kind of weapon. Meet Special Agent Jericho Quinn. Air Force veteran. Champion boxer. Trained assassin. Hand-picked for a new global task force that, officially, does not exist, Quinn answers only to the Director of National Intelligence and the U.S. President himself.

His methods are as simple, and as brutal, as his codename.

The Hammer.

"One of the hottest new authors in the thriller genre. . .terrifying. . .in one word: Awesome." --Brad Thor

5.0 out of 5 stars I hate writer's like Marc November 29, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
I can't stand writers like Mr Cameron. I have way too much work to do to be up reading all night long unable to put a book down until I find out how it ends.

There aren't many writers that are capable of that. Marcus Wynne is one, Lee Child and John Sandford are some others and now Mr Cameron joins the list.

What's even scarier is this is his first book...if he gets better (and most writers do as they gain experience) then I am going to be plagued with more sleepless nights.

If you enjoy Vince Flynn and Brad Thor etc you will love the character in this book. "Jericho Quinn" is refreshingly different than the heroes in the others in many ways and his big Cajun sidekick is a welcome addition also.

So, get yourself a copy...only don't start it until you have a solid block of time to finish it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most excellent! December 11, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The title of this book sums up the story. National Security is not just about securing our nation against terrorism, but against bioterrorism. Our nation is a large one and it takes a lot of people doing a lot of different jobs and using a lot of different tools to keep us safe. However, sometimes the majority of that safety comes from one person doing an extraordinary job. Jericho Quinn is that man in this story. Air Force veteran. Fluent in several languages. Expert fighter. Cool and fast-thinking in a crisis. He's not just a man fighting terrorism. He's an extraordinary man who is the President's ordinary tool. He's The Hammer.

I loved, loved, loved this book. It caught my attention from page 1 and held me captive until the end. The story is tight and smooth-flowing. The characters are complex and jump off the page. The action is fast-paced. I had to force myself not to peek ahead to see what happens, a failing of mine when I'm enthralled with a book. I judge how good a book is by how badly my need to peek is and this one was off the charts. However, I did resist. For the most part. *sheepish grin*

If you like stories that have a race-against-time theme and have a good deal of excellent general info on how our military operates (I do since my husband and son were both Marines) then I highly recommend this book. Heck, I highly recommend it anyway. Read it now or drop and give me 20!

5.0 out of 5 stars National Security is a very good read! November 28, 2011
By Doug
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
First of all, the book was supposed to be delivered between 11/30/2011 and 12/15/2011. I got it today (11/28/2011) or TWO DAYS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE!! You can imagine my pleasant surprise and satisfaction with the folks at any_book!!
The story involves terrorists who agree to be live biological time-bombs and enter the US to kill as many Americans as they can before they themselves die of the horrible disease they are carrying.
The good guy, Jericho Quinn, nickname 'The Hammer' (you can guess why, can't you?!) answers only to the Director of National Intelligence & the U.S. President. His job is find the terrorists and stop them before millions of Americans are exposed to this hideous weapon.
There is a considerable amount of blood and gore but only enough to make the story believable. Too little Of it and the story doesn't seem real. Of course, Quinn finds true love in the story but the book ends with an opening large enough to drive a truck through so you can be pretty sure that there will be a sequel to the original story line.
This is very well-written with dialogue which you can easily imagine taking place with complex characters battling their own demons, etc.
For pure escapism and a wonderfully relaxing way to spend an evening or a weekend, you can't go wrong with National Security by Marc Cameron.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new force in the political thriller December 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thought I was reading an early Vince Flynn or Tom Clancy novel, back when they wrote for passion and not a paycheck. This story moves at a lightning pace with excellent character development and a strong plot line. It held my interest from the first page to the last and was a fully satisfying read. It was even formatted and proofed properly for the Kindle application, an increasing rarity these days.

If I have an criticism at all, it's the cliff hanger ending in the epilogue but that only means the sequel is already in the works and I've actually put it on pre-order with Amazon, something I seldom do. If you like action, suspense, realistic plot lines that are well researched, you will love this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars The sidekick wins January 4, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Quinn makes a great hero in this book- he is enigmatic, brooding, and a quiet tornado of destructive butt kicking. However, I have to say that his sidekick Thibodaux stole the show for me. His irreverent humor was just the right touch to balance out the fast paced action and pandemic disease. This book was hard hitting and a fast read. It was scarily plausible. I didn't want to put it down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a novel February 16, 2012
By Nieve
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The author seems to know a thing or two about Middle East, and there is a lot of fast-paced action, but I wouldn't call this book a novel. It is more like a screenplay for a not-so-good Hollywood movie, with an American superhero, helped by his sidekick, punishing bad guys and saving the world. The plot is not very believable, and rather predictable. The book is full of cliche characters.

Here is a good example of how ridiculous it is (not much of a spoiler alert): within hours of arriving to Saudi Arabia the main protagonist encounters - purely by chance - 2 members of the 'Vice and Virtue' police getting ready to rape a girl as a punishment for violating the rules. Needless to say, he kills the officials, and the thankful girl shows our hero the way to the (supposedly) super secret terrorist base. If you don't find this ridiculous, this book is for you.

I listened to an unabridged audio version read by Tom Weiner, who is normally very good, but here he went too far with heavy foreign accents, making the characters sound like cartoon characters - unfortunately this is a rather common mistake by the audio book narrators.

And, oh, BTW, yes, I support our troops. The REAL troops.
