Warm but too short!,
By
This review is from: National Sleep Products Microsuede Down Throw, Terragon (Kitchen)
This blanket is amazingly light considering how warm it is once you're under it for a few minutes. The suede texture is nice and the reverse side is a soft fabric. Its a good lap blanket for sitting in the chair, but you really have to curl up if you want to take a nap with it- its too short. About 8 or 9 more inches in length would've earned it 5 stars.

My husband is going through the rigors of chemotherapy, and he's always cold, no matter what the temperature is in the house. When I saw this throw on Amazon, and saw it was filled with down, I thought it would solve his chill problem.
It did more than that, though. It's a really gorgeous throw! The color is really lovely, and when not in use, it's the perfect size to throw artfully across the back of a wing chair. This isn't your granny's crocheted afghan! I got it in sienna, which is less of the bright red it appears in the picture - actually, I like it better in person! When you get it, it's rolled up tight and looks almost like there's nothing in it. Based upon the directions I got with a down comforter I bought, you have to let it "breathe" after you unroll it. It slowly expands to a nice size (but it's not too fluffy, so it's easy to fold and store.) One side is an ultrasuede (which means the dog hair doesn't stick!), and the down is sewn in box channels so it doesn't shift. It's VERY well made, and it can be machine washed and dried (an important consideration when you have to actually launder these things.) My husband finds the size to be perfect. He can sit on the couch, watch some TV, and for the first time, he's warm without turning the thermostat up to 80! I took a nap yesterday, and instead of reaching for the chenille throw, I tried this instead. I usually sleep for a half hour or so. I was so toasty and comfortable, I woke up two hours later! Amazon had this as a special during the Friday sale (I purchased it before the sale.) I like it so much I bought several more! It'll be a great thing to have handy in various rooms whenever my husband wants to warm up. I also intend to bring one of the throws when he goes into the hospital next month for an operation and a long rehab. He's always freezing, even in stuffy hospital rooms. Ever since I unfurled this gorgeous down throw, I haven't heard him complain about the cold. That's excellent news. Now maybe I won't go bankrupt, trying to pay the gas heat bill this winter!

Not as nice as I thought...,

I read all the reviews, sent one as a gift, then later sent one to myself. Wish I had sent one to myself first. It is soft, but in a soft plastic kind of way, like a shower curtain. It is not pleasant on bare skin and will feel clammy until it warms up. May even cause local perspiration. It is really flat when you get it. Looks empty. But it does respond to fluff drying and will puff up after time. It is not as luxurious as I had imagined it would be and I find myself grabbing the cheap flannel throw I got at Osco last week. It's warmer and softer.
At the most this Microsuede Down Throw looks good on the back of a chair or sofa, and can be washed, but I would not buy it again.

This was the year of knee surgery in my family. So, I thought I'd find a nice throw/lap blanket for my family members with new knees, arthritic knees, etc. to use to keep them warm. This is a NICE throw. It's smallish, but it is a lap blanket, and you're not supposed to sleep under it. It's soft and it's truly stuffed with down, not feathers. It's not as thick as a down comforter - but it's not supposed to be. I paid $8.99 for this little gem, and as someone who sews I can tell you I could not possible make it for that kind of money. As to the down, the loft comes back after it's been out of the bag a bit. Everyone seems delighted with the throw and I got everyone the sienna - which is a beautiful color. I would buy it again.
Amended 2/1/06 I was just at my friends and her throw is I gave her for Christmas is leaking down all over. It comes out badly through the microsuede side and in just a few places on the cotton side. I have the large version of this on my queen size bed with no problems thus far. I haven't checked with the other 6 people I gave this to, I'm afraid to. (she still loves the throw, just not thrilled with the down leaking)

Not incredibly thick but warm. I use it for travel since I can roll it up very small and it doesnt take much space. Great inexpensive throw.

I have this in the chestnut and in the sienna. One great thing is the color is as shown online, so there is no guess work. They are small but regular size for a blanket. On a queen bed they will cover the entire top portion without going over the edges, if that helps. When you get them they are de-fliffed so you can spray them with water to get damp and rum them through the dryer, they come out as fluffly and my goose down comforters and even though they look thin they are SO WARM! I'm really happy with the purchase.

I was thrilled with the quality of the throws I bought 40 of them for family and friends for Christmas. Everyone was quite pleased and called to tell me so again and again.... They are Perfect for covering up while watching TV or reading your favorite book... Very light weight, Not bulky, but keeps you toasty warm..... I bought all of the colors offered, which worked well for the families with more then one child. Each got a different color so NOOO fights. Remember these are Throws not blankets...... I am back again to pick up a few more!!!!

Based on the manufacturer's description, I decided to purchase this item - 3 in fact. They just arrived by UPS, and I am not disappointed in the least. They are exactly as described. They are super soft with a luxurious feel and look and will definitely serve their intended purpose very nicely. Factoring in that this item contains down AND is machine washable is just icing on the cake! I'm not sure what was expected by those people who left the more 'critical' reviews of this item. The item is exactly as described. These are very lovely LAP THROWS, and I would not hesitate to purchase more!

Yes, it's small - compared to a blanket. Which it's not. It's a throw, and a lovely one at that. It's rich in color and the microseude is incredibly soft. It doesn't have much fill in it, but if you allow it to breathe and run it through the wash it'll fluff up quite a bit. It does come with a slightly odd smell but that's natural for duck down. With time, it will go away. Overall, I would highly recommend this product.

This product is alright, it's very small, but I'm not sure why you would buy it and say it is when the dimensions are listed right here on the page. When I noted its size, I realized it'd be perfect to just drape over the back of one of my couches.
I have to say, it's not the best looking thing I've ever laid eyes on. It is... 2-d. It's absolutely flat, which actually works out to my advantage, but it's much less filled than I expected. However, it IS down filled, so I suppose they would have to charge more should it be filled with more. Regarding the issue of its manufacturing site, I really don't see how that would matter, considering the United States is one of the smallest exports country; most of our clothing and linens come from out of the country. The reason why the throw smells a bit off is because it's made from polyester. The contents have been sterilized, according to the tag. I suspect this makes a much better sort of cover than a blanket. It is very thin, and I do doubt its ability to keep a person warm. The "microsuede" side is very soft, and like the opposite side, made of polyester. When you're paying less than 10 dollars for something like this, you can't really ask for much, and it's more than I expected to get. |
