I got this at a local store at heavy, heavy discount, and feel I paid just about the right price. I have to give credit to the company who packages these, as they don't try to hide the ridiculousness of the claims by hiding the plate away. You can clearly look through the packaging and see what you're getting. However, I needed a garlic peeler, and the brush will be useful when I get a real grater (and for a dollar, you really can't go wrong).

The "grater plater" has no blades, not a sharp point on it. Rather it's a set of glazed nubs, which results more in crumbling of things like chocolate (Actually the friction melts room temperature chocolate, so freeze anything with a relatively low melting point before using the Grater Plater on it.) or cheese than proper grating. Really, though, the plate works best as a soap dish. The recessed sections in mine were filled partly with some of the brown glaze from the edge of the plate. It didn't appear to be by design, but rather poor quality control. Given the dullness of the nubs, I'm not sure this really hampered the "grater" at all.

So, for your money, you get a brush that will gather fruit zest, chocolate/cheese/etc. from a real grater, an effective (if small) garlic peeler, and a giant soap dish; not a bad deal if you get it on heavy discount.

I was watching a cooking show where the chef was using this dish style grater. I am always grating my knuckles when I grate small items. I went to Amazon to see if I could find the item and after some searching I found it and it is so cool to be able to grate garlic ( it turned into a paste that released all the flavor and smell of the garlic ). You can grate lemons. oranges, spices whatever you want without your skin being part of the mix. The garlic roller I know works since I already have one. For those who love to cook, you have to have this in your kitchen.

The Grater Plater nubs are rounded and smooth, which renders the item useless. I was going to try to salvage the purchase by using the bonus brush for my coffee grinder, but the bristles fell out.

I ordered three of these, two as gifts. I had one from a year ago, that I spent more money on, at a home show and loved it. I thought it would make a great gift for my "love kitchen gadgets" friends. This is not the ones we got. If you go back a page or two You will see the ugly blue ones "as seen on TV" with the dull nubs on the plate. Ya, for some reason that's what we got. I was embarrassed once I saw the product, I had been singing it's praises. When I asked to see my friends to see if she got the same one, she said hold on a second and had to fish through her cupboards to find it. Yep, she tossed it to the back and forgot about it. I felt so bad. Long story short, You do NOT get what you pay for.

Something as simple as this and Works GREAT. Use a little common sense and it works as designed and stated.

This thing would work maybe as a coaster. As a grater it is the biggest joke i have ever seen.

The grater is a very convenient, easy to use kitchen tool. The ceramic allows for very fine grating, and with a simple rinse, you can go from garlic to cheese to nutmeg, no problem.

Great product, bought for gifts for all the family and everyone uses it and loves it. Not only great for garlic but also the grater is great for hard cheese.

I use this grater all the time. As other posters have stated, it turns garlic into a mushy pulp which works great for me. I find it releases the flavor of the garlic and have found that since owning this little plate, I have not had to chop garlic or risk my knuckles on my conventional grater. Now I am by no means a seasoned cook so there may be some culinary reason why you wouldn't want to have pulpy garlic added to your cuisine but I have found no difference in the flavor of my dishes preparing the garlic with this dish. Before owning this simple, inexpensive product I used to sigh at the thought of chopping and grating cloves of garlic. Now I don't...its a snap! Also great for making dipping oil for bread, just leave garlic mash in plate and add olive oil...yum!
