If you are just starting to get into Native Music this is a great collection from various talents. Featuring songs from award winning artists and TV shows(How the West was Lost. Peter K. and Northern Exposure, Joanne S. and Spirt Dance a PBS Special with Paul M.). Great way to get a collection started.

I have always wanted to enjoy native American Indian music, maybe because aspects of the culture are so appealing. But the straight traditional music was not easily listenable except as a curiousity. To my regular New York ears there was nothing to latch onto to bring me in. Then the "new age" flute stuff was nice but best for going to sleep by. This album has guts, intrigue, variety, interesting combinations of instruments, chanting, poetry, all dynamicly captivating. For example the song that is on right now, has a woman speaking interesting poetic words, an insistent ceremonial type drum in the background, occasional male traditional chanting chorus, an electric guitar and maybe sax. The opening song had Indian flute, soft chanting, and strong up front piano. All of the tracks are interesting like these. Since I first put it on late yesterday, I have played it 6 or 7 times already, and am trying to think which of my friends would also enjoy hearing this.
