Every once in a while a cd that has been gathering dust on my shelves makes it back into my player, and wondrous music is thus liberated. So it was with "Native and Fine", which Amazon informs me I purchased 9 years ago. Evans is an excellent banjoist, but it is to David Grier's superlative and sensitive guitar work that my ears are drawn. I'm happy I found it.

This bluegrass album is native and fine. I think that's supposed to mean traditional and superlative. It is. There are a few vocal numbers. Suzanne Thomas sings Wondrous Love, a favourite.

I think you will find that Bill Evans (banjo) is not -that- Bill Evans (piano). I listened to this to see how Bill Evans (piano) was going to get his way around "Choking the Strings". -This- Bill Evans did fine. I think the other one would be more comfortable with "Lullaby of Birdland".
