New Age, atmospheric Native American,
This review is from: Native Flutes For Relaxation (MP3 Download)
I enjoy Native American music, although I am by no means an expert. There was a good Native American internet radio station I spent quite a bit of time listening to a few years back. So I was pleased to see this collection being offered up on Amazon at such an attractive price (free!).
The title says it all -- Native Flutes for Relaxation. Don't come to this record expecting traditional Native American performances, the way they would have been done 100 years ago around the fire. This is all music from the modern, New Age, synthesized-up vein of Native American music. It is relaxing because the edges are taken off with studio effects, and often synthesizer and atmospheric backgrounds are added in. This is easy listening Native American, suitable as background music for your yoga. The tracks by Jessita Reyes are marked by animal effects -- track 1 is backed by bird song, track 2 by crickets, and track 12 by a mixture of birds and electronic effects that simulate the feeling of the wind blowing. The Alice Gomez tracks have a bit more natural sound to the flute, and additional instruments like guitars and cymbals. Track 10 has wind chimes blowing in the background. There are non-traditional instruments like vibraphones used as well. The Native Flute Ensemble tracks are marked by greater use of native percussion -- drums and rattles. No birds except for a hawk on track 7. Track 11 was pretty synthesizer-heavy. The selections from Ben Tavera King have more guitar and a lot of native percussion. These are perhaps the least flute-centered tracks in the set. If you are looking for traditional music, look elsewhere. But this is a very nice sampler within the modern, synthesized, relaxing vein of contemporary Native American music from the American Southwest. If that is what you're looking for, you're in the right place.

This was free when I downloaded it. And I wa very surprised it is actually really good. High quality, and fantastic for meditation sessions or just listening to while doing things around the house. I personally have it on, always while I journaling or drawing on my iPad. Thanks.

Let us keep this short and sweet. I bought this a few days before my finals looking for relaxing, calming, background music. My regular music taste is electronica/trance/dance music, and this would not be ideal for cramming for tests. I originally looked at classical music, but Amazon suggested this instead. I could not be happier.
For $0.00 I was able to have about 10 songs that are each substantial in length, and high in quality. I had my stereo near a window, and sometimes I could swear that there was whatever local musician playing the flute outside my window. It is a high quality recording, with each track having crisp quality and tone. I highly recommend it for everyone that just needs a little relaxation, you will not be disappointed.
