Color Name: Black Metallic Verified Purchase
I bought the black metallic version of this POP phone via this link on Amazon. On the description page it lists 'Native Union Ltd.' as the seller, however on checkout it says 'Insane In the Brain -- The BEST DEALS on the Web! Storefront'. I also noticed that on selecting the black metallic phone/picture on this page, it now comes up with another seller, which, incidentally, also has changed twice since I wrote this review. As far as I understand it, on the inside of the genuine Native Union phones there is a stamped 'CE mark', it apparently also comes with a manual with an option to register the 'phone', this particular product came without all this. On reading more on the Native union website, it seems to me the particular phone I was sent is likely to be a counterfeit product, despite it saying Native Union on the box. It might be that the seller, Insane in the brain, or other amazon resellers, are not aware of this being a counterfeit product, and it would behoove Amazon to make clearer on their listings if this is sold directly by Amazon, as a genuine product, or it is is sold by a reseller and therefore might not be a genuine product, and update those seller pages or remove them from this particular sales page, which as far as I understand it, is advertising the genuine phone, and monitor this. I also think that the other colors, the first few of the ones you can select in the 'pictures' could well be the genuine product, and that therefore there are so many contradictory reviews on the review page for this particular phone. I think the genuine Native union phone is probably a fabulous product, will post more on this once I receive 'the real thing'. If it turns out that what I bought via Amazon is not a counterfeit product, I will remove or update this review.Read more ›

I ordered this product and another Native Union Moshi Moshi POP Phone at the same time. When this one came, it was the GO SHUKI brand. The external packaging was slightly different than the genuine Native Union, and even had some interesting Engrish. Inside, the internal packaging was different and it did not include the user manual or the stickers that the Native Union did. I wanted a geniune Native Union and I purposely did not order any of the other knock-offs, even paying more to ensure that I got a genuine product.

Interestly, this GO SHUKI had volume controls on the handset, and the Native Union does not have volume controls. The handset of the GO SHUKI is slightly larger and is significantly lighter. The Native Union logo is missing. Another difference is that I can hear my self talk with the GO SHUKI and not with the Native Union.

Also the Native Union phone has the CE logo (means it is lead-free) and is RoHS compliant (another lead standard). This GO SHUKI is not.

It seems to work, but I feel that this was a bait and switch. I am really disappointed that I did not get what I paid for.

As long as the handset is an actual NATIVE UNION set you will not be disappointed. I got this and immediately put it to work (while driving I might add). At home, you can charge your phone, and yap away without the heat bugging you, or accidentally hitting any buttons. Native Union offers a ton of colors, however, the Desert is so amazing, as I'm in the Army. I know someone who walks around with this set in her purse, and she'll stroll down the street yapping away, getting confused looks from others. This thing ROCKS, dont skimp out and get the cheap one, just get the real thing here, or on the Native Union website (and they ship it for free). Change that ring tone to an old school telephone ring, and wha-la, your yapping away like back in the day.

I purchased the handset in Soft Touch dark purple as a gold box offer and LOVED it. I loved it so much that I ordered a second one to keep at work. The second one arrived and it was NOT a Native Union - it was vastly inferior:
*The Native Union handset has a very nice feel to it. The Soft Touch is really nice, kind of satiny. The cheap knockoff that came today is really slippery. It does not stay wedged between your jaw and your shoulder like the Native Union does.
*The handle part of the knockoff is thicker too. So it's uncomfortable when wedged on your shoulder in an old school attempt at hands-free. Not that it would stay there anyway, because like I said, it's slippery.
*Design. The color of the knockoff is not as deep a purple, and it doesn't have the same cool grooves on the mouth and ear pieces. Additionally, the pieces don't look like they fit together as well. The knockoff looks cheap.
*Cord length. The cord of the Native Union is of a decent length, although I could do with about 4 more inches of coil. The knockoff's cord is crazy short. There is no way you could pocket your phone and talk on the receiver at the same time.

So the Native Union product is five stars, but that's not necessarily what you'll get if you order this. The knockoff phone is one star - it is just so wrong in every little way.

I am absolutely disgusted that Amazon would pull the bait-and-switch.

I followed the advice of another reviewer and went to the Native Union site to purchase another. $29.90, with free shipping to the U.S. The $5 are worth it to know I'm going to actually get a Native Union product.
