Product Description

Healthier by nature. 100% Cotton. Certified organic. Non-chlorine bleached. Why organic tampons? In 1989, Natracare was developed as a direct response to health and environmental concerns about dioxin pollution by chlorine bleaching, the use of rayon in tampons, and the extensive use of pesticides on conventionally grown cotton. For over 15 years, Natracare has been trusted by women who see the good sense in making a natural choice in tampons, pads, panty liners and feminine wipes for their monthly cycle. It makes sense to choose a tampon that is made from only certified organic cotton to avoid unnecessary exposure to chemical residuals and synthetics. Natracare Organic cotton tampons and chemical free pads are high quality products made from only pure and natural materials that are not chlorine bleached and are free of rayon, plastics and synthetic materials. Made in Germany.

4.0 out of 5 stars Natracare, September 19, 2009
By
This review is from: Natracare Organic All Cotton Tampons, Regular with Applicator, 16 Count boxes (Pack of 12) (Health and Beauty)
These tampons are much more comfortable than the brands I have tried. They absorb the same compared with regular absorbency of tampax or kotex. I will say, like others, that occasionally, the applicator plunger is a little bit tricky (too tight) to easily push the tampon out of the applicator. However, I have only had to throw one away so far out of a box of 16, a few I had to use two hands to get the job done. But, the majority insert very easily, stay put, absorb well, and are painless while removing. Although they are costly, it is worth it to not have rayon or other synthetic fibers absorbed into my uterine wall, bloodstream, or any other part of my body. BTW, I did a test myself of natracare, tampax, and kotex. all regular absorbency size tampons. I put each in a cup of pure water and let the tampon absorb. . .then I took the tampons out of the water and held each cup up to the light. Needless to say, as I had predicted, natracare was the only tampon that left no fibers behind in the water. Kotex left the most followed by Tampax, a close second. I urge you to do this test if you are still unsure of switching to this brand. Think of those remainder fibers as what stays in your body once you remove those other tampons. Believe me, I was hesitant to0 but I truly believe that this is the safest brand of tampons out there and an occasional applicator difficulty is worth the peace of mind of having less chances of getting TSS, endometriosis, vaginal dryness, infertility, and a host of other diseases and sicknesses. Whether or not you switch over to this brand, please educate yourself, your family and friends about the synthetic chemicals prevalent in 99% of tampons and pads and their dangerous toxins that they pollute your body with. Pay the extra few dollars, readjust your budget to accommodate them. They are worth it. What is best is if you go to the natracare website and to the customer service section you can request free samples of their products and they will get back to you in a timely manner to get your address to the send them, completely free. They are worth a try, especially a free sample. But, please consider trying them. I am confident you will make a lifelong switch, even if that means that you may have to change them a little bit more often because they do not expand as much others due to being organic. Thank goodness we at least have this brand!! I hope they never go out of business. Customer for life.

1.0 out of 5 stars Greenwash product - a complete waste of money, September 14, 2009

NatraCare Regular Tampons / B000EWFOQ4

When my trial run of a Diva Cup fell flat, I decided to look into organic tampons as a 'second-best' green alternative to my Playtex tampons. I decided to try NatraCare tampons and picked up a box of the 'Super' and another box of the 'Regular' varieties. If you've read my review of the NatraCare Super, then you've pretty much already seen this review - both the 'Super' and the 'Regular perform identically poorly - and I do mean 'identical' deliberately - there is no difference in size or proportion between these two varieties, which ties into my greenwashing hypothesis (i.e., that these are a cheap product tarted up to appeal to environmentalists like myself). But I'm getting ahead of myself now.

On paper, NatraCare looks good - no chemicals means I'm not inserting poison into my body, plus the lack of chemicals means that the earth isn't being damaged by the creation and dissemination of said chemicals. Plus, the cotton is organic, which means fewer pesticides being used out there.

Having said that, in order to be effective a green product must actually *work* or else there's no point in buying the product at all. And I'm hardly picky - in general, I fully expect a green product to perform slightly less well than the un-green product it is replacing, and I consider the reduced performance to be a worthwhile trade-off for keeping the earth safe and clean for my children and grandchildren.

Having said *that*: these tampons do not work at ALL and are a complete waste of money. I've attached a slide show that will demonstrate the problem as best I can describe it, but basically, these tampons do not expand properly. They expand only in one direction, leaving gaping holes for blood to pour out. And if that wasn't bad enough, there's a deeply cut little channel running from top-to-bottom that funnels the blood out in a manner that must be admired for its efficiency if nothing else.

I'm also convinced that these tampons are unsafe. The organic cotton is incredibly NON-absorbent, and almost every time I remove one of these tampons I find that the sides that had been pressed against the inside wall are completely clean and dry. The problem with this is that the clean, dry cotton (that *should* be wet but isn't) scrapes and cuts the inside wall when you remove it and, frankly, it hurts. I'm not a doctor, but it feels like an infection waiting to happen, and it certainly isn't conducive to my mood.

Bottom line is, these things are a complete waste of money. I don't care how "green" they purport to be - until the company decides to spend the appropriate money to develop a *real* tampon that actually expands and absorbs and is at least slightly effective, this is just more green-washed waste and you'd be better off going to pads if you must have organic cotton. Since I hate to waste money, I used these tampons faithfully through two full periods and - without fail - every single tampon leaked horribly from beginning to end, even when I tried to compensate by changing them twice as often. I'm going back to my faithful Playtex until I can find something better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Than I Expected, October 23, 2009
This review is from: Natracare Organic All Cotton Tampons, Regular with Applicator, 16 Count boxes (Pack of 12) (Health and Beauty)
Having read other reviews, I was a little worried the sample tampon I'd received would be useless. After a TSS scare ten years ago, I stopped using tampons. However, I also come from a family where tilted uteruses and very heavy periods for the first two days are the norm. I can burn through even the overnight pads halfway through a night making for lousy sleeping. My doctor suggested I get past the fear of TSS and try organic cotton tampons which have a lower risk. I was given a sample of Natracare pads and tampons and let them sit in the cupboard.

My last period led to the typical, didn't-make-it-through the night on one pad issue and after cleaning sheets, pajamas and underwear, I decided that was it. This period cycle, I pulled out those sample tampons to give them a shot. I was surprised with how well they really worked.

I've never used tampons without having leakage anyway, so to me it was no big deal if they leaked some, I had a pad as back up anyway. After sleeping through the night for a full seven hours, I got up and was fine. I was surprised to find just how little leakage there was.

Given that, I'm heading to the store to stock up on Natracare tampons. If they can keep me from forcing myself to get up every few hours to change pads, I'm all for it!
