I have been using these for 7 months and have been very happy with them. I am so glad to buy a laundry-cleaning product that does not come in a plastic jug, that does not leave a soap residue on my clothing or in my washer, and that cleans our clothes efficiently!

My fiancee, who has a very labor-intensive, sweaty, chemical-laden job, reports that even his work clothes come out of the washer smelling like nothing. Which is a huge improvement over the stinky pile of clothes he tosses in there! He likes that there is no scent on the clothes after they come out of the washer (no stench, no chemicals, no flowers, no perfume, just "clean").

The little bag is very durable and stays closed in the wash (we tie the drawstring in a knot for security). They also successfully run through the dryer. We have a front loading maytag commercial quality washer and a standard maytag gas dryer.

I purchased the larger bag, and I'm excited to finish it, so I can find a new use for that, as well. Reusable produce bag...travel lingerie bag... toiletries bag...etc.

I put "samples" of soap nuts from my big bag, into the little bags, and give to loved ones (I usually stuff the bag for them and tell them to store them in a ziploc bag or glass jar and only use about 5 or so nuts per "use", which equals about 5 loads. This way, they can get quite a few trials of them and have some on hand while waiting for their own shipment to arrive!). They sell a three-pack of the bags on amazon.

TIP 1: we keep a make-shift dry-erase board & marker on the wall by our washing machine to tally the washings with those IIII-slash line markings, using two lines for especially heavy or dirty loads. Once the nuts in the sack are washer-spent, we erase the markings on the board, dump the nuts into a big jug (for later boiling) and refill the sack. This is much easier than trying to remember/calculate how many uses the nuts had or have left (especially when two people use the same sack at different times).

The next three tips aren't about the direct use of this specific product, but since they are eco-laundry related, and about my general use of the product, I thought I'd add them:

TIP 2: Since these nuts don't attack stains, I also purchased (from Amazon) a spray bottle of BioKleen BacOut, which I keep in my laundry room for stains and problem spots. (I also keep one on each floor, for carpet spots.) Works better than other natural stain removers I have tried.

TIP 3: I don't use fabric softener, but I do put a few drops of essential oil in the fabric softener dispenser. I like how it makes my clothes smell and I think it helps repel mosquitoes as I haven't gotten bitten since I began doing this. I used to get bit very often, and others are getting bitten more then I am now.

TIP 4: In the dryer, I use organic wool dryer balls (bought on Amazon), with some drops of pure essential oil (usually lavender or peppermint). I put the drops on the balls and then toss them in for a brief Air Fluff (no heat) to dry the oil before I put my clothes in the dryer. No icky chemical (or expensive natural) separate fabric softener needed!

I bought these after I had a baby who had a reaction to another detergent because I wanted something as gentle as possible for his clothes. This is not powerful enough to get the stains and odors out of his cloth diapers, but for normal everyday laundry--these work great!!! I did want to offer one little tip though. I noticed a few reviews on soap nuts claiming that it doesn't get stains out or that there was an odor to them. Two things actually--it makes a tremendous difference if you take the nuts out of the laundry before the rinse cycle begins!!! I've put a 10" satin ribbon on my little soap nuts bag so I can easily locate the soap nuts in the wet washload in the washer. These are truly a fragrance free product. But the clothes obviously will rinse most cleanly if the nuts are not in the rinse water. Also, do keep a bottle of spray and wash or shout or something to treat stains before you wash, because this is definitely not a stain fighting detergent. If you have dried food or hunks of remnants of something on a shirt or towel before the wash, clean that off best you can and treat the stain before washing. But there is truly no need whatsoever for fabric softener or dryer sheets with these soap nuts. Clothes come out very soft. Now that my learning curve is over, I actually love this product for my family. No chemicals!!! :)

Shockingly wonderful. I'd never heard of soap nuts until a relative saw a news story on them and mentioned it to me. I settled on NaturOli because, after a lot of internet searching, it was one of the top-rated soap nut products and most trusted companies. I did four loads the first day and tried not to be too impressed. A few days later I did three more loads and came to two conclusions: (1) Soap nuts ARE great! They wash thoroughly and laudry is purely clean. No fading colors, no odors. Truly wonderful. (2) My favorite way to do laundry with them is to use 6 nuts & 1/2 Cup of vinegar. Laundry comes out extra soft. I have a front-load machine. Highly recommended!

I bought these as a detergent for washing cloth diapers. The first time I used them I washed them in hot with my fitted diapers and some prefolds and was super surprised at how clean they came out. I could literally put my nose up to previously soiled diapers and not smell residual poo smell. I had to strip my diapers b/c I had used natural detergent (BioKleen) beforehand and there was a film and these nuts actually helped strip them more. I have used them on my regular clothes also and am very pleased- no static or film (I hate fabric softener b/c of the film it leaves). I once watched them wash and was very surprised that they actually suds a little. I'm not sure how many times I can use them over and over, but so far I'm still on the same nuts after almost 6 loads and they still feel usable.

These are awesome and really work. It's hard to get used to the lack of suds, but natural soaps don't have suds because they don't fill their products with foaming chemicals to fool you into thinking it's cleaning better. Let this product prove to you it works!! Don't give up. You don't need suds!

I have just ordered the 2lb bag for the 3rd time. We are a family of 5, and I wash all of our laundry in them, including diapers. I find that adding either oxybleach or borax totally takes care of stains, but I had to do that with my old detergent anyway. Shipping with this company is super fast!

I have been trying to figure out how to quit using dryer sheets for awhile... It's not that I hate them, but it is especially annoying when my husband forgets to add them and the clothes or towels are all full of static! I tried the dryer balls and really wanted for them to work- nope! I tried using more softener, nope! Now with these soap nuts, not only do I not need to use dryer sheets, I am also not using softener or adding colored bleach... I am saving SO much money!!!! These are AMAZING--- My clothes have never felt so soft.

After using the nuts in my washer, I tried the liquid version which I liked better for my laundry. So what to do with the rest of my nuts? I put them in my dishwasher! 4 nuts in the covered the basket with a lid (or in with several silveware handles to keep them from flying out) does the job - but I DO have to make sure all the food is off the dishes, since it's not full of chemicals that will disolve the food. I have been using them in my dishwasher for almost 2 years and love them!

My cloth diapers come out looking brand new. I use 5 soap nuts in a wash, soak the nuts in hot water first then throw them in a cold rinse the wash on hot. It gets EVERYTHING out and anyone that cloth diapers knows that any stains come right out after a few minutes in the sun. My daughters diapers smell fresh and clean. I love soap nuts. Also keep in mind that you have to keep the nuts in the bag to wash with them, you cant just throw the loose nuts in or they will ruin your clothes. I have a feeling people that have complained didn't read the directions.
