One of the previous reviews I felt was totally uncalled for since it appears that the person making the comment has never used this product. I am a consumer and recently heard about these soap nuts. I became very curious and found this sample pack. I received this promptly after ordering and immediatley started using them. I am so impressed! I am very much considering switching to these. From all the research I've done, I feel that I will save quite a bit of money. The product worked very well, left my clothes clean and scent free, and I didn't have to use a fabric softner. I encourage anyone to try these. Yes, there may be other companies out there selling soap nuts, but this happens to be the one I chose and the company sells a high quality product that works!

My sister recommended soap nuts to me as a detergent alternative for when I begin cloth diapering my baby. She uses Maggie's soap nuts, but based on the reviews about quality control, I decided to try the NaturOli sample pack. We had just purchased a big bottle of Tide but had not opened it yet, and the sample pack came in time for our weekly laundry.

The nuts came in the little muslin bag. They look just like the nuts in the photo - medium brown and clean. They are soft shells, not nuts like a walnut. I followed the instructions and threw the bag with the 5 little nuts into my front-loading washer. I didn't stand around and wait to see if suds would form, but when the load was finished, I was very happy to find clean clothes with no fragrance or odor. Even stinky underwear came out smelling like...well, nothing. I am accustomed to detergents and fabric softeners with some sort of fragrance, but now that I understand those are really chemicals I am smelling, I was happy to know that no fragrance or stink meant the soap nuts worked.

I washed 7 loads of laundry with this little bag, the last load being my dog's blanket. Still no odor (and my dog had needed a bath, so the blankets were ripe!)

These soap nuts do not do a good job of getting out any sort of stains, so I'll have to find a way to pretreat any stained clothing. Also, at one point I couldn't find the little bag because it got caught in my laundry, but I did eventually find it. But as far as cleaning my laundry, I think the soap nuts did an awesome job!

I was going to buy the 1/4lb package, but I liked them so much that I just bought the 5lb bag of pieces, and gave a friend a little sample pack to try. I don't think I'll use 5 nuts for 7 loads next time, but I expect that the 5lb bag will last me close to 2 years, and will cost me less than $0.10 per load. That's over half the cost of Tide HE when its on sale.

For the money, it is definitely worth trying the sample pack to see if soap nuts are for you. You can always go back to commercial detergent if you decide that's your preference.

This product cleaned my clothes as good if not better than commercial detergent. My clothes came out smelling good and clean. I've already bought more, this time in bulk. I used them for 6 or 7 loads and I couldn't tell if the last was less clean than the first.

I have been using these for 7 months and have been very happy with them. I am so glad to buy a laundry-cleaning product that does not come in a plastic jug, that does not leave a soap residue on my clothing or in my washer, and that cleans our clothes efficiently!

My fiancee, who has a very labor-intensive, sweaty, chemical-laden job, reports that even his work clothes come out of the washer smelling like nothing. Which is a huge improvement over the stinky pile of clothes he tosses in there! He likes that there is no scent on the clothes after they come out of the washer (no stench, no chemicals, no flowers, no perfume, just "clean").

The little bag is very durable and stays closed in the wash (we tie the drawstring in a knot for security). They also successfully run through the dryer. We have a front loading maytag commercial quality washer and a standard maytag gas dryer.

I purchased the larger bag, and I'm excited to finish it, so I can find a new use for that, as well. Reusable produce bag...travel lingerie bag... toiletries bag...etc.

I put "samples" of soap nuts from my big bag, into the little bags, and give to loved ones (I usually stuff the bag for them and tell them to store them in a ziploc bag or glass jar and only use about 5 or so nuts per "use", which equals about 5 loads. This way, they can get quite a few trials of them and have some on hand while waiting for their own shipment to arrive!). They sell a three-pack of the bags on amazon.

TIP 1: we keep a make-shift dry-erase board & marker on the wall by our washing machine to tally the washings with those IIII-slash line markings, using two lines for especially heavy or dirty loads. Once the nuts in the sack are washer-spent, we erase the markings on the board, dump the nuts into a big jug (for later boiling) and refill the sack. This is much easier than trying to remember/calculate how many uses the nuts had or have left (especially when two people use the same sack at different times).

The next three tips aren't about the direct use of this specific product, but since they are eco-laundry related, and about my general use of the product, I thought I'd add them:

TIP 2: Since these nuts don't attack stains, I also purchased (from Amazon) a spray bottle of BioKleen BacOut, which I keep in my laundry room for stains and problem spots. (I keep also one on each floor, for carpet spots.) Works better than other natural stain removers I have tried.

TIP 3: I don't use fabric softener, but I do put a few drops of essential oil in the fabric softener dispenser. I like how it makes my clothes smell and I think it helps repel mosquitoes as I haven't gotten bitten since I began doing this. I used to get bit very often, and others are getting bitten more then I am now.

TIP 4: In the dryer, I use organic wool dryer balls (bought on Amazon), with some drops of pure essential oil (usually lavender or peppermint). I put the drops on the balls and then toss them in for a brief Air Fluff (no heat) to dry the oil before I put my clothes in the dryer. No icky chemical (or expensive natural) separate fabric softener needed!

I love, love, love, love this product. I wasn't sure if it would even work, but my clothes come out clean, clean clean and so soft without any fabric softner. I am hooked!

I was pretty excited to try out these soap nuts as an cheap alternative to all the chemicals in regular laundry detergent. However, the soap nuts did not work out well for our laundry. For clothes that weren't very stinky or dirty to begin with, the soap nuts worked fine--soft, clean clothes, no smell, as promised.

But sweaty t-shirts, underwear, and other fairly heavily soiled or smelly clothes came out just as soiled and smelly when they went in. Stains I can deal with--as others said, this is not meant to remove stains. However, even regular day-to-day t-shirts still stank of underarm sweat. Gross. I ended up having to re-wash them all with my regular detergent.

So, the soap nuts didn't work for me. If you are a sedentary woman and don't stink much, your clothes will be fine. But if you have some guys in your household, or active people with workout clothes, then the soap nuts will not remove the sweat smell. This is quite a disappointment for me.

I tried this out and they work great. You wouldn't think that something like this would work so well. I work in foodservice and am always struggling to get my clothes truly clean. This works great. The best part is you don't even need to add fabric softener. Yet, the clothes still come out soft and static-free. I'm completely sold on this and would recommend it to anyone.

I bought the small (6 load)pack of these to try them out before our baby is born in several months. One of my friends uses them on diapers and, because my skin in terribly sensitive I wanted to test them on my skin before I use them on the baby. I am very pleased with the results.

When the soapnuts came in the mail I went right to the washer to use them. I had been saving up dishcloths, underwear, socks and gym cloths to give them a real test. As my friend had reported, the laundry came out smelling like nothing! No fragrance, no dirt, no laundry odors, it really smelled like nothing. (As a disclaimer I did add a scoop of Oxygen bleach for stain fighting but I can not imagine that it could have produced these results on its own.

I have done four loads now of tough laundry and everything has had the same good smell-free result. Also, I have not yet had a bad skin reaction which is wonderful.

The only annoying thing is finding the little bag in the washed clothing but the package said that drying in the dryer would not hurt the sopanuts so it is not a major deal. When I buy more I think I will use two bags at once if it does not become annoying to keep track of how long I have been using each bag. I will be buying a two pound bag today to further test this product in my home.

I had decided that I wanted to make my own laundry detergent, in an effort to be more natural and expose my family to fewer chemicals. I got online to look for a recipe and stumbled across Soap Nuts. I read all about them and thought I'd give them a try. I ordered the sample pack from Amazon and then put them to work. I washed a couple loads and everything seemed fine. My clothes were clean and looked great. But then I thought I would really put them to the test. I used the Soap Nuts to wash my dirty, stinky kitchen rags (several times in the past I have had to rewash the load because after washing them with store bought detergent they still were somewhat smelly). Well, this is what sold me on Soap Nuts - after that wash all my kitchen rags were clean and smell-free. I have since told my friends all about them and bought the 4lb. bag from NaturOli. Just give them a try and let them speak for themselves.

Just tried these soap nuts. Have done 4 loads of laundry. They were very simple to use, following the directions. They left my clothes very clean and smelling fresh. Nothing negative to report so far. Am seriously considering ordering a large portion of them now. There are lots of good reasons for me to switch and not really any for me to keep using conventional detergent. Already recommended to a friend.
