3.0 out of 5 stars Good for P.U. enthusiasts
An overall interesting zero to hero story. Gambler, arguably the best current PUA in the world, writes about his methods along with anecdotes from his life and how he evolved from a shy insecure man to a pick-up ace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on pickup!, July 10, 2010

For guys who really want to learn the pickup game, this book is for you. After reading this book I believe Richards methods could work anywhere in the world. I have read the Mystery Method and Rules of the Game, but this is the book that seems to truly outline all aspects of pickup. Richard is the real deal, and I was never bored reading this book and even finished it in a few days. In closing, I just want to say if there are any guys reading this, GET THIS BOOK!!!! I really mean it. You will learn a lot!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for P.U. enthusiasts, March 9, 2011

An overall interesting zero to hero story. Gambler, arguably the best current PUA in the world, writes about his methods along with anecdotes from his life and how he evolved from a shy insecure man to a pick-up ace.

Gambler's writing is very straightforward and somewhat dry but it feels genuine and honest. It has a lot of common traits with The Game but Neil Stauss' The Game outshines TNAOS in quality of writing and pace in the long run. But I can't really blame him for that - Neil Strauss was an accomplished author before actually writing The Game while Gambler dealt in the stock market and than turned PU guru.

From a PU point of view, there is lots of good advice in this book that can really add some tools to your PU arsenal if you didn't know them already.

Personally I found the non technical chapters from Gambler's past more interesting than the teaching themselves.

3.0 out of 5 stars Its Ok At its Best, September 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Natural Art of Seduction (Paperback)
This book is really nothing special even though I was hoping it to be. If you are into reading many stories I'd suggest that you just read The Game. This book has many sections where he talks about his life, and his progression which is interesting but I wanted this book to help me not to read about his life.

This book lacks in how to get the courtship stages going. Gambler really just tells you what to do in a not so organized manner. Unlike Mystery everything in the book is organized. He tells you what to do exactly and when to do it in detailed steps depending on how the girl is acting. Gambler on the other hand just tells you what to do but doesn't really tell you when. This book though has good openers to say I'd say more that what mystery had in his book but it is not all that great.

So if you really want to know when to do what like when to say something or how to act depending how the girl is responding get the Mystery Method instead. He really covers everything. This book is just an addition to your pick up lines. Nothing really special though in fact Gambler goes over what I already knew from reading Mystery's book. The only main thing that I did like is he did show how to kiss or get a better response from the girl because he knows what to say and when instead of just asking.

In the end if you want a complete book get the mystery method it goes through the whole stages of attraction comfort and seduction. This on just gives you good gambits, and things to say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great advice for men who need help with women., December 6, 2007
This review is from: Natural Art of Seduction (Paperback)
It's not all about seduction. Most of it is common sense and how to apply it to real-life situations. The author really helps to disspell many set in beliefs about women and also gives tips on how to overcome what I would call "geek" behavior. Pick this one up, definitely. Also, I would suggest getting Get Laid Now! The Man's Guide to Picking Up Women and Casual Sex in addition to this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, excellent material., September 1, 2011

I can't get enough of this guys work. Even though a lot of what he talks about is "against the grain" from a PUA perspective, his methods work, FAR better than most PUA's does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably The Best PUA Book I've Read So Far...., October 28, 2008

Having at least started almost every PUA book available on Amazon (actually I've read The Mystery Method four times), and then several E-Books purchased on the internet, I gotta say I've got some serious RESPECT for the author. I am completely baffled by the mediocre reviews and especially the negative one...

Richard La Ruina chronicles his painfully pathetic pre-history for us in ways that strangely (and probably intentionally) give his other advice more traction. Written in a style which is a mixture of story telling, flash backs, and incredibly sophisticated teaching methods, I found his writing as compelling and hard to put down as The Game - except this book is actually focused on teaching technique (versus telling an interesting story about PUA as done in The Game). And the ability to teach is what makes this guy ABSOLUTELY STAND OUT. He is a master teacher who recounts story after story of what he's learned from others and what could have been done better by his former teachers (without knocking them), and conveying stuff like NLP in the most comprehensible way I've ever come across.

I swear, it seems as this guy doesn't even realize how transformative his teaching methods are, he is so low key about them. One example, he walks you through the importance of combining anchoring physical movements (a NLP technique) to reaffirmations and the creation of a state of mind, he suggests recording these reaffirmations to an MP3 player along with motivating music so you have something handy to get your state up while at or going to the field - just brilliant.

From body language photographs to charts and intricate drilled down explanations of important concepts, this dude simply breaks the mold of PUA training manuals - and at the price of a regular paperback - mindblowing (you have to understand, all kinds of folks are selling far lessor works as "E-Books" and charging $60 a pop for a downloaded PDF file).

Don't hesitate, buy this book (despite the cheesy photo of him with Paris Hilton on the back), then keep studying the other guys...but you would be crazy to pass this one up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sound advice but not the Alpha male of the PUA library, February 16, 2008
This review is from: Natural Art of Seduction (Paperback)
I've read several of these PUA manuals now and although this probably isn't the best of them, it does rank as a very worthy addition.

I'd score it highly on its advice regarding body language, voice, attitude, and generally the importance of giving off the right alpha-male persona. It actually has some nifty diagrams to help you strike the right pose, something I hadn't seen before in any of the other books.

I'd mark it down for the somewhat unfocused opening chapter, where the author relates his incredibly rapid transformation from social invalid to babe magnet (in the space of just a year?). The author is also rather brutally honest in his underlying motivation - explicitly stating that he wanted to become a PUA 'guru' (and make money) before he had even learnt the basics of the game.

He also makes a big point of stressing that his 'system' is different to all the others, particularly in its 'naturalness' and non-offensive manner to women. Given how he credits the infamous Tyler Durden as being his greatest influence that is quite something. However, I couldn't discern any uniqueness or anything startlingly novel in the advice laid out here, just more tips on how to pose as the most dominant ape in the jungle in order to be acceptable to the fairer sex. Having said that, he does include a little more than the usual obsequious apologies to womenkind for any 'sexual objectification' that the PUA game involves.

This book (and it's marketing) does encourage cynicism, but I don't doubt that the advice contained within it is entirely sound. I also understand that few other PUAs have a bad word to say about the author, something which in the normally bitchy world of the pick-up community is quite rare. La Ruina's book is great when he cuts to the chase and lists the important elements of PUA success, but for my money Tony Clink does it rather better in his 'Lay Guide'. Also, as an inspiring testament to the power that 'learning the rules' has to change your life, Neil Strauss does it far better in 'The Game'. This book nobly tries to emulate the best aspects of these works, yet falls a little short of both. Netherless, there is a lot of fresh, well laid out advice to be garnered here. If you have money to buy several PUA guides, this is certainly worthy enough to be one of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Job Breaking Down the Natural Approach, January 24, 2009
By
This review is from: Natural Art of Seduction (Paperback)
This is the most recent PUA book I've read and while I did like the books I read by Ron Luis and Mystery, I found this one to be a lot more useful. I like the organization of American PUAs in defining their steps from approach to finally closing a follow-up date or getting a girl, but I like the natural approaches described in Richards book more-so. If anything it gave me a new perspective on how to be realistic with women and not come out of the gate with neg's and create those kind of tensions. Using the body language techniques and escalation techniques he describe can easily determine where you stand with someone before you speak to them, during your interaction and afterward. I would recommend this book for other guys who have had difficulties understanding how to break into social circles, meet women, and who find themselves unable to date who they most desire. Add it to your list!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tips, August 26, 2008

This book not only talks about tips, but also body language so not to cause the wrong impression when you talk to women. He also has some pictures to demonstrate what he means. He's got a goofy picture of himself on the back cover with Paris Hilton (yeah, like she's a catch!) but he definitely knows his stuff and even comments on weekend studies he's had with other pick up artists and his impressions on he's learned or not learned from them. Good to know if you were planning on going to meet these guys for some tips with the women. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning how to meet women.
