Natural Balance Ultra Formula Cat Food

My cat is a picky eater. I ordered this product because I was concerned about my cat's nutrition as she has recently started losing her hair. My vet recommended weaning her onto a healthy, high protein, wet cat food. I had been feeding her cheap dry food.

My cat absolutely LOVES this stuff! As soon as it arrived, I opened a can of it, just to see what it smelled like. THIS STUFF SMELLS FINE! I think that is smells BETTER than most cans of cat food that I have opened. It does NOT stink-up my house at all.

My cat does not usually eat a whole 6oz can of wet cat food in a day, but she will happily gobble up as much of this as I give her each day! I HIGHLY recommend this product to any one looking for a healthy food for their loved pet.

Two months ago, my 11-year-old kitty began to vomit after every meal. She had been on a prescription food for FUS (feline urinary syndrome) for seven years and had never had any trouble with this food.

I tried sensitive stomach food, which didn't work, then another recommended food, which also didnt work. I tried diluting the foods with water. She lost a lot of weight (and couldn't keep anything down! I went through three bottles of spot cleaner!) but she still seemed to have some energy and was getting water, After almost three weeks I was ready to submit to vet bills, which I couln't afford. (Thought it might be hairballs but could have been food allergies or something worse.)

I read somewhere about Dick van Patten's Natural Balance, and tried the Ultimate formula, canned. It's been eight weeks, and my kitty hasn't thrown up since the first time I gave her this food. She has lots of energy now and has gained back a good portion of the weight she lost. No exaggeration, this has been for me like a miracle.

I don't know what the reviewer who said there was a smell was talking about, because there is no smell! (Maybe he was trying the fish formula, which should smell like fish?)

In fact, this food contains only human grade meat and veggies. Again, my cat loves the food. I have also used the Hairball Mgement formula, and that first week she liked that, too... now, she doesn't eat that alone, so I mix a smaller amount with the Ultimate formula and that seems to be fine.

I am very grateful to find this food and, having read some about cat nutrition, I feel confident that it is nutritionally very good.

I totally disagree with the person who wrote about the smell of the canned food being awful. Must have gotten a can that was opened a little and spoiled cuz all the cans I got... there is NO SMELL. Everyone knows what cat food smells like, this stuff is like opening a can of pureed human food. No disagreeable odor at all, and my 4 cats can't get enough of it. It is down and they beg for more. Same with the dry. Highly recommend it. I'd shop around for the cheapest price, it is expensive but worth it.

I adopted a cat from a rescue shelter and he was underweight, vomiting and had very smelly diarrhea. I purchased Iams and Science diet dry and wet and he barely touched either food. His foster mom said he liked Friskies but I just could not feed my cat a food filled with by products, fillers, and dyes that are not good for cats. I started to research cat diets on line and came across a veteranarian article that recommended Natural Balance as being the best commercial cat food. It seemed to contain all the ingredients that veteranarians and cat experts recommended for a balanced natural (omnivore) cat diet. I ordered a few cases online and hoped that I was not wasting more money on expensive cat food. Well, my cat gobbled it down the first day. I did not even have to mix it with old food -- he took to it immediately and begs for it several times a day now. So far he likes the Venison and pea and the Chicken and liver pate. He is gaining weight and has lots of energy and bright clear eyes. Best of all, he has not vomited and his bowel movements are completely normal now. (In fact there is absolutely no smell and miminal waste, I am sure because the food is being digested properly) I am planning on trying other flavor varieties. This cat food is definitely worth the money. BTW -- the smell is what I would expect from high quality cat food - in fact it is better than I expected. I disagree with the other reviewer's comment about the horrible smell.

I've got two cats. One will eat almost any wet food adn the other is VERRRRY picky and finiky. She's had me quite worried the past couple years cause she just doesn't eat as much as the other one. since I started feeding them this stuff she is demanding dinner time. it's awesome. no horrid stench either as the one reviewer suggests.

I tried a few premium cat foods with my cat, particularly Iams and Nutro Natural Choice, but was put off when both brands were affected by the Menu Foods Recall. I chose Natural Balance because of its wholesome formula (4 of the first 5 ingredients are meat; also has chicken broth), no glutens, by-products or digests.

I tried one of every can of cat formula under this brand and found the others a bit on the dry side. Natural Balance Ultra had a nice moist texture and didn't dry onto the bowl before my cat had a chance to finish his meal. He cleans his plate consistently and has maintained his weight since I adopted him. His coat is shiny and silky, with no dandruff and little shedding. It even contains dried cranberries to maintain urinary tract health.

Overall, I like this cat food and would recommend it to others.

I've fed my now 9-week kitten NB ever since she was weaned. She eats canned in the morning and evening, and ultra kibble during the day. She loves the ultra flavor, and only begrudgingly eats everything else. I've found that ultra makes the least smelly poop.

I like it because it's a good quality product for the cost.

I dislike it because it's making her grow so big so fast (why can't they stay small forever?), and because it gives her so much energy for her kitty capers that I can barely keep up.

The cost of quality food vs supermarket food is one less coke per day for you, i.e. everyone wins. As a side benefit, all the ingredients are people-grade (the ultra formula smells delicious), so theoretically kitty could share with you when the inevitable zombie apocalypse descends upon us.

Although I am placing my review under the Ultra formula this review pertains to all of the NB canned flavors my cats have tried thus far. Ultra being the one we purchase most frequently - I've also tried Venison with Green Pea, Indoor Cat Formula, Turkey, Salmon, Ocean Fish and the Duck and Green Pea. With the exception of the Duck/Green Pea, my two cats absolutely LOVE these foods! Like many folks here we have switched our two cats (both over the age of 10) from cheap dry food and the occasional cheap store brand wet food to NB. Their coats have gotten softer, they are far more content and have more energy. (I know that sounds trite but it's TRUE!) Who would have thought that the dad from Eight is Enough would become a pet food chef par excellence?? This is absolutely the best - you can tell when you first open the can because the aroma is NOT the same as your average cheapie canned cat food. The protein content is higher than most as well. Since I don't have time to grind up raw chickens I wanted to get my babies the best food available that they would actually enjoy. So far I have yet to find any food that is better than Natural Balance. Highly recommended!!!

I am on vacation and this is the longest I ever had to spend away from my cat. I left her in the care of my mom. I decided I wanted to send her something new (food wise) because of all the problems that has been going on with Iams and stuff. Although I am still not back home, my mother tells me that she goes crazy for this stuff. My mom also said that the food does not smell nearly as bad as the market brand cat food. I am happy with these results, sounds awesome.

My cat simply seems to have fewer issues while on this food. She also likes it. I give her a small can of wet at night, and the rest of the time she grazes on the Ultra dry. Whenever I tried to tighten the budget and switch to cheaper supermarket stuff, I would notice a behavioral change in her. She would get twitchy, like her back was all itchy, and she would alternate between slinking around then running really fast, eyes wide and ears back with her hair all sticking up. It was like she was possessed. Kitty exorcist stuff. She doesn't do that ever while on quality food, though. I guess I'll have to cut the budget in other ways. Cats are obligate carnivores that are used to eating whole prey items, or whatever they can catch and get in their mouths. It is not easy to give an animal like that what they need. You really can't skimp on their food and be sure that they will remain in good health. Lesson learned for me!
