Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Phosfree reduces phosphate levels in your pool. Phosphates are the limiting nutrient for algae growth. Reduce phosphates to near zero and enjoy an algae free pool. Natural Chemistry unconditionally guarantees it.

Product Description

STARVES ALGAE!

Eliminates phosphates (algae's primary food source) to starve algae!

Can be used all season and is great for pool closing in the fall to control algae during the winter months!

Unlike algaecides that kill existing algae (resulting in a release of phosphates by the dying algae), Phos Free eliminates phosphates from the water to solve even the most stubborn algae problems!

Purchase extra Phosphate Test Strips so you can test for phosphates in the future!

Dosage: 4 oz. per 8,000 gallons, (Higher dosage for excessive phosphate levels).

This product eliminated my algae problem. I've owned a plaster pool for six years, and have at best only been able to keep the algae at bay, both green and red (red algae, not pink slime). I tried every chemical recommended by several pool stores, including super-chlorination and bromine. I was adding chlorine every two days and kept two floaters in at all times just to keep it at 1ppm; it got expensive. So when the pool store recommended this product because my phosphates were too high, I thought, "Sure... another expensive chemical to sell me." But I was desperate, so tried it anyway. My initial level was 1000ppb, which means that while I was trying to kill the algae with chlorine, the phosphates were feeding it. After two treatments (read the directions carefully) of 1.5 liters each, running the pump for 24 hours straight after each treatment, it was down to 300ppb (recommended level is <200). I added a third treatment for good measure. I haven't seen algae in three months. I add chlorine no more than once/week in the summer, and it easily stays at 3ppm. This is going to save me work, headaches, and $$$ on chlorine. It has nearly eliminated the calcium buildup on the tile at the waterline since I'm not shocking constantly.

WARNING: do not apply this until you have killed the algae in your pool. Yes, it removes the phosphates (algae food), but it somehow protects the existing algae, making it very hard to kill. Shock well, then use Phosfree the next day.

Update: I found silver algacide helps get rid of the red bacteria.

Amazon Verified Purchase
I've been using phosfree for over 4 years.
Really cuts down on chlorine usage, works great.
I got a deal, a little over $20.00 per 3-liter bottle.
Never got it that cheap before, don't expect to again.
Anything under $25.00 for a 3-liter bottle is a great price.
buy it!

Works very well indeed. September 4, 2009
This is a superior product and my wife and I have had great results and no regrets or problems using it. Our best success with this product has been when we've followed these directions, as I recommend you do:

Directions:

1. If pool has algae, follow dealer instructions to treat.
2. Follow dealer instructions to balance water chemically.
3. Clean or backwash filter, if necessary.
4. Refer to PHOSfree product back chart for dosage.
5. With filter running, shake bottle well, and add required dose directly to skimmer.
6. Run filter 8 hours a day for one week or 48 hours continuously without backwashing or cleaning.

When phosphates levels are 100ppb or less, begin Pool perfect+ Phosfree as a weekly maintenance.

Not as concentrated as the description says
I just received my bottle of chemical, so have not used it yet (it's to replace a different brand that I used up). As phosphate removers go, I'm sure it works well. Read more
