2.0 out of 5 stars Natural Childbirth After Cesarean: A Practical Guide
Has some nice stories, but this book is about anything BUT natural childbirth VBAC. HEAVILY medicalized, and not very encouraging in a womans ability to birth normally after cesarean. If you want a hospital birth with maximum drugs, this is for you. Otherwise, save your money and time and just read Birthing From Within!

Finally, it inspires you to try, and chapter 8 will inspire your husband/partner/coach as well. The Checklist and Appendices are also full of useful info. I was ready to bring on the contractions by the time I was done

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for planning a hospital VBAC, January 31, 2002
By
"bjyoung76" (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Natural Childbirth After Cesarean: A Practical Guide (Paperback)
Natural Childbirth After Cesarean begins (as most books on the VBAC subject do) by refuting the old wive's tales...ruptured uterus, vaginal breech deliveries dangerous, etc. I am pleased with the fact that both writers are speaking from experience and not just medical or personal opinion (not all authors on this subject can say the same). On a more personal level, this book made me search out my own reasons for wanting a VBAC and emphasized that knowing this reason is crucial to the success of the birth. However, as someone considering home birth I thought that the book was a little too "pro-hospital" and mentioned a home birth only for those "extremists". This view was not backed up with any research but stemmed from personal opinion, which was a little disappointing. This aside, this book should be included in your "top ten" list as you do your VBAC research.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful for any VBAC, not just natural, August 22, 1999

I loved this book. The authors' stories of their own VBACs are inspiring, and while they really promote natural childbirth, there is good information here that will help you even if you are not sure that is what you want. If you have a breech baby, be SURE to read this. One of the authors had 4 breech babies and she gives lots of suggestions for turning them!

This is a wonderful book for anyone planning a natural birth after having a previous cesarean. It's very informative with a wonderful labor checklist at the back for helping with many situations that may arise during labor and delivery. Take it with you to the hospital

5.0 out of 5 stars Best step-by-step guide on VBAC, March 9, 2010
This review is from: Natural Childbirth After Cesarean: A Practical Guide (Paperback)
I read many VBAC book and decided that this will work best for me for preparation. Best decision I ever made by sticking to it :)

I used this book as Bible. Followed each chapter one by one. I had less than 18 months between my 2 deliveries and baby was 8+ pound. I practiced squating, meditating, adjusted diet according to suggestions using this book and did Yoga 2/3 times a week. In addition I hired Doula (assited birth). I had successful VBAC.

This book definitely diserve 5 stars...

5.0 out of 5 stars inspiring, supportive, fantastic!, December 29, 2008

After choosing to have a VBAC, I found this book. Wow, what an inspiring and informative read! One of the authors has a uterine septum and breech babies, as I have. I had 4 c-sections due to it and after reading her story I grew confident that I COULD have a VBAC despite what the drs told me. I am now 30 weeks and for the first time have a HEAD DOWN BABY. I do attribute some of that to this book.
Yes, the book has a hospital focus. However, I did not feel that the book was slamming home births. Another book, Birth After Caesarean, does not recommend home births for VBACs. Some, like myself, have no other choice but a home birth (unfortunately.)
