Amazon.com Product Description

Save money and energy with the floating, solar-powered Savior NCSF55 pool pump and filter system from Natural Current, which runs silently from just the power of the sun. You'll be able to turn off your inefficient, noisy, and expensive-to-operate pool equipment and both reduce pollution and save money. The Savior eliminates over 17,000 pounds of pollution per year and it can pay for itself in as few as 7 months.

savior main
The Savior NCSF55 solar-powered pool pump and filter system (view larger).

Installation is as easy as taking the solar-powered pump out of the delivery box, and placing it on the surface of your in-ground or above ground swimming pool, Jacuzzi, hot tub, or pond. You won't need to worry about buying and installing batteries or connecting it to your existing water pump equipment.

savior pool
No plumbing, no electrical hook-ups, and no energy consumption (view larger).

The Savior pumps up to 11,000 gallons a day through three reusable 20-micron filter cartridges. You will only need to occasionally clean out the filters, and then place the solar pump and filter back in the water. As opposed to common sand pool filters, with the Savior's cartridge filter you never have to worry about getting sand in your pool.

Its whisper technology makes it dramatically quieter than your current noisy pool pump equipment, and it requires less maintenance than your existing pool filter. Easily portable, the pump works in both sunny and cloudy weather--you don't need to live in an all-sun-all-the-time climate to reap the benefits of this solar-powered tool. (During periods of inclement weather, or for larger pools, your existing pool pump can always be ran for a few hours a day as a supplement to maintain filtered water.)

The Savior is powered by a 55-watt, 12-volt policrystalline silicon solar panel made of tempered glass and measuring 25.7 x 25.2 x 1.38 inches (WxLxH). The unit measures 35 x 35.5 x 12 inches (WxLxH) and weighs 38 pounds. The pool pump's solar panel has a life expectancy of 10 to 30 years, and you can expect to spend approximately $100 every 2 to 3 years on normal unit maintenance (including replacing the pump/motor and filter). It's backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Made in the USA.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Savior, hard at work, every sunny day! October 16, 2011
By Dr :D

My Savior, well not quite! Works as advertised however 11,000 gallons a day is a stretch of the imagination! The REAL bilge pump is rated at 1100 gallons per hour. I believe there are very few places on earth you are going to get 10 continuous hours of direct sun to keep this 12 volt pump working at full 100% power. The speed of the pump is directly related to the amount of sun falling on the solar panel. A small amount of power in the early hours of the morning and increasing until mid day and then decreasing in the afternoon. The smallest shadow, even just the size of your hand nearly stops the pump. Reality I probably get between 5,000 to 7,000 gallons a day but it does collect fine debris on the filters. I note there are Unicel filters at $40 and cheap no-name filters at under $20 and since there is no-name on them I'm sure I got the cheap ones since half of the paper pleats collapse into each other reducing the filtering area and making it hard to clean. Bought this to reduce the number of hours I run my DE filter and save energy. Also as a back-up system when my other filter is down for service. I will give it 4 stars for being a good idea but falls way short of its claim to filter 11,000 gallons a day.
UPDATE Nov 2011: The manufacturer was critical of my comments and said I should not quote figures and data I was not sure of and he is quite right. So I took the time to test the output of my savior to see how many gallons per day is realistic.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far so good May 9, 2011
Size Name:10K|Amazon Verified Purchase
After 5 days I am moderately impressed with the Savior. Even though I have a pool that is much larger than the Savior is designed to support I bought it in hope of being able to reduce the use of my pool pump.

In my case this does not fully replace my pool equipment but is a great addition that can reduce the time spent running the filter and manually cleaning. Because this floats in the pool and the filters are mounted underneath it does not clean items floating on the surface as a skimmer does. Also it cannot help clean things that have settled to the bottom so you will still need an automatic pool sweep or to manually swep. What it really does well is clean the items suspended in the water, it seems that the spinning action can help disrupt the water aiding the cleaning process.

Note that on sunny days if as much as 10% of the panel is blocked from the direct sun the pump will slow or stop. On cloudy days this seems to be less of a problem.

Initially I found this was getting hung up in the floating hose for my pool sweep. I adjusted the 90' elbow on the pump outlet so it spins more in place and this seemed to fix the problem. This also helped prevent it from getting hung up on the rocks on the edge of my pool.

I have noticed that the water in the pool has cleared up quite a bit after 5 days of use despite several windy days and a little rain. So far I am happy with my purchase. It would be better if there were a slight redesign to perform some skimming action and I would like to see a higher volume model for my large pool.

UPDATE
After a few months I continue to be quite happy with the solar cleaner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily handling my 35k gallon pool. August 1, 2011
Size Name:10K|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've had my original filter system off for 6 weeks now and my pool is still crystal clear. My backyard isn't that big so there are sun obstructions early morning and evening but the unrelenting texas sun is able to drive this little guy to its maximum potential. The high efficiency panel runs the filter in excess of 6 hours each day. It's half the size of my 60W hobby panels. I'm going to try and upload a picture to show it's size and the quality of my pool water with just a single Savior taking care of my 35000 gallon pool. They are only rated for 11k gallons. If i see any cloudiness i will gladly pick up another one.

It has already 1/4th paid for itself in electricity savings. That's not including the cracked pipes i don't have to use/repair anymore nor the water we were wasting from the cracks.

It isn't small but it takes up less room than having an extra inflatable mattress in your pool. It doesn't hurt a thing to take it out of the pool while you are using it. Once not in direct sunlight it just goes to sleep.

The motor is amazing, it pushes a jacuzzi-jet-strong column of water straight down. This jet ends up doing a good job of pushing any debris on the bottom of the shallow end down to the deep end reducing my vacuuming chore by half. I can't wait to see what accessories they come up with that might work from that.

It's practically silent, I can only hear when i swim under it. If i'm not in the pool i have to touch it to be sure it's working.

Love it, my only wish is that it would mow the lawn too.
