5.0 out of 5 stars Deep, thought provoking, refreshing, heart felt, March 14, 2000
If you can get past some of the Tibetan words, which aren't excessive, you will find yourself refering back again and again to the messages, warmth, and clarity of the words. He touches your soul, opens your heart, and speaks a peace and hopefulness to your mind. Its like breathing fresh mountain air again. The title is says it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars "natural", January 25, 2001
This was a great man. Unfortunately for us, he died recently, but thanks to the efforts of Lama Surya Das, et al, we can catch more than just a glimpse of this man's wisdom and power. Written from the perspective of teacher-teaching-student, it does have an amount of "dzogchen lingo," but any serious seeker would do well to learn some of these terms and fathom the realities they reference. It is said his teaching style was always one of very direct and personal exchange regarding matters of actual practice, and I think it is this more than anything else which comes through in this book. Very inspiring to the student of dzogchen, "the great perfection."

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best to start with, December 14, 2004
This is a very fine book on Dzogchen. It was one of the first (if not the first) I read on it, and it inspired me to read much more and practice as well. The books of Surya Das are also very fine and worth reading. There are a few key terms one needs to learn but not very many compared to other areas of enquiry and study. The book makes a great loaner too for people who ask, "what is this Dzogchen you are doing?"

ONe of the best, possibly the best, writing on Dzogchen I have been able to read. Yet, "Who needs to compare?" (Suzuki Roshi). This writing works in the head and the bones.
