Product Description

The Gaiwan means covered lid or bowl and predates the teapot in China as a tea drinking implement. The first item was a bowl used to drink powdered Green Tea, then someone fingured out that you could steep the tea leaves and get a different taste, and with that the Gaiwan or lidded bowl was born. The lid serves to both hold the heat in and strainer the leaves while either drinking directly out of it or while pouring into another cup. "Older than the teapot, the Gaiwan is one of the most simple and elegant ways to drink tea. The lid serves to strain the leaves while drinking the tea."
