5.0 out of 5 stars I Highly Recomend This Book, December 23, 2000
This review is from: Natural Healing with Herbs: The Complete Reference Book for the Use of Herbs (Paperback)
I have managed a book store and currently work in one of the largest public libraries in the south. I have seen many books on using herbs for health and medical reasons. This is by far one of the best. For the last ten years I have recomended this book both personally and profesionally. It is really not for the beginner, but if you are familiar with herbs, this is a book for your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars My NUMBER ONE Reference, August 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Natural Healing with Herbs: The Complete Reference Book for the Use of Herbs (Paperback)
I have close to 100 books on herbs, and whenever I need something this is the FIRST one I grab! I have several copies at home, one at work and one for traveling around. I can't recommend this book highly enough!!! It has a one-of-a-kind chart included which is pure gold! I've never seen a chart that is so useful! The only drawback I've found in this book is the lack of some of the Rain Forest herbs, such as Pau d'Arco and Cat's Claw, which I would dearly love to see Smokey's write-ups on. This book includes a section on herbs, a section on illnesses, a section on diet and cleansing, as well as a section for learning about herbology which includes invaluable information on herbal actions. This herb book is great for beginners and professionals alike. I have read all of Smokey's books and would unhesitatingly recommend them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Herbal 'Bible' anywhere!, August 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Natural Healing with Herbs: The Complete Reference Book for the Use of Herbs (Paperback)
I've owned this book for about 15 years, and it's one I DON'T lend out to anyone!
It's one of the most comprehensive, well written, best organized books I have ever had the pleasure of referencing.
If you're serious about learning about herbs, this is the book for you! I've refered to it many times to learn herbal properties, as well as looking up herbs for certain ailments.
I can't praise it highly enough!

4.0 out of 5 stars This book has good and bad points..., January 7, 2000
This review is from: Natural Healing with Herbs: The Complete Reference Book for the Use of Herbs (Paperback)
To an experienced, and or practicing herbalist this book has a lot of good information as to dosages and other items. I would recommend this book to anymoderate to advanced student of herbology. If you are a beginner, or justcurious, then there are farbetter books out there for that purpose. This book is not a primer, or an introduction. As a side note, I must state that thebook "Back to Eden" by Jethro Kloss is a source ofa lot of the material in Santillo's book. Mr.Santillo amplifies a lot ofthe material from Back to Eden and catalogs itbetter, so if you have or plan to get Back to Eden, then this book should be a definite companion to it. And vice versa, Back to Eden fills in alot of the items Mr. Santillo insufficiently covers. I say if you're gonna buy one, get the other. Together, they make a wonderful, reliable foundation of knowledge to draw from regarding herbology and natural living.

5.0 out of 5 stars Natural Healing for Herbs: A Complete Manual for Herbal Use, June 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Natural Healing with Herbs: The Complete Reference Book for the Use of Herbs (Paperback)
NATURAL HEALING WITH HERBS by Humbart Santillo, B.S., M.H., is one of the finest and most comprehensive herbal resource books I've ever seen. Not only does it include every conceivable herbal supplement one could need to look up, but it provides multiple indexes, including an index of diseases. There are also over a dozen chapters that discuss health and disease and herbal therapies in depth, including:
1. The Nature of Health and Disease; 2. Diagnosis; 3. Herbal Therapies and Their Application; 4. Methods of Using Herbs; 5. The Course of Herbal Therapy: Dosage, Duration & Rest Periods; Healing Crises; Keeping the Disease Under Control; Translating Traditional Herb Preparations; 6. Herbal Properties; 7. Commonly Used Herbs; 8. Herbal Formulations; 9. Diet & Cleansing; 10. Enemas; 11. Hydrotherapy; 12. Homeopathy; 13. Comprehensive Therapies for Common Ailments.

There are also many charts, figures, and diagrams to help you to find the best herbal supplement for your needs and understand how to use them most efficaciously.

Well worth the investment; you will find yourself turning to this resource book often!

5.0 out of 5 stars My all time FAVORITE Natural Remedy Book!!, November 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Natural Healing with Herbs: The Complete Reference Book for the Use of Herbs (Paperback)
I bought this book in the early 90's when I'd first gotten interested in natural healing. It was my main reference book from that point on even though I already had dozens in my library. I moved in 2005 and it, along with many others, got ruined....I was heartbroken but too busy to replace it at the time. As time went by I would randomly search Amazon for it but could not remember the name or the author..only remembered that it was Spanish-sounding. One night I had a dream that I found it again and, my determination renewed, crawled through all the listings on Amazon until I found it again. I'm SO happy to have it back!! I have since bought dozens more before finding this again but none are as complete as this and it's resumed it's place on the shelf as my most referenced book. If you only had one book in your herbal library, this should be it. It is comprehensive and well laid out detailing the most used herbs, how to best prepare them, what their strongest properties are, how to manage an illness, remedies for common illnesses etc... The only thing missing is pictures of the herbs or how to grow and harvest them yourself...but I guess that'd be a whole 'nother book. If I were stranded on a desert island and could only have 3 books...this would be one of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Primary Reference, June 16, 2008
By
Yanna (Chicagoland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Natural Healing with Herbs: The Complete Reference Book for the Use of Herbs (Paperback)
I bought my first copy of this book twenty one years ago during my first herbal medicine workshop. It was subsequently highlighted, underlined, dogeared and read countless times and of the many books on herbs I used over a period of years, it remained my favorite. I haven't seen this new edition but, based on the merits of the previous edition, I heartily endorse this as an herb book that helps a person readily learn and understand the actions and indications for a broad range of herbs as well as the specifics of their applications for different types of ailments.

The only complaint I had about this book was that the nutrition & diet information in the older edition was not in line with "traditional diets" as we find them in preserved cultures (fermented foods, animal fats, etc.) but is more in keeping with the new-fangled ideas that arose during the 1910s and 20s, which have since been proven to be fads.
